My officer, using the techniques I had taught him, was able to qualify with a 100% score on our standard qual with a dead Aimpoint.

As I work with this gear more and more I have come to the conclusion that a fixed front site is the way to go and that BUIS are over rated for 99% of LE work. I want them on the guns but it is getting harder and harder to believe that they are essential from my experience. If I was Mil. I would have a different view as the supply train is not the same. Hell, if I was Mil. my guys would be running the Aimpoint M4s because of the battery issue. We issue an M4 rifle to every officer and could not justify the extra $200 per unit cost for the M4s. It came down to the M3 and the T-1. Every officer voted for the T-1 after head to head evaluations on the range.
like Lucky said, if you train properly you can use the empty tube in and of itself as an "optic".

That may work in a quick and close situation which is usually the case in our line of work. But it will not cover situations where that is not the case. There is no excuse not to have a BUIS. I will not let our guys carry a rifle without one period.

I fully agree if we're talking about the mil or an LE agency.

From my point of view as a civilian I wouldn't put the same weight on a BUIS, however. I have an ACOG on my rifle and plan on getting a T1 for my 2nd. With the kind of shooting I'm doing (and will be doing), I have faith in my gear that it will not fail me.

Just different outlooks based on what you're doing. Like you and Lucky said, if I were LEO or mil, you're darned right I'd have a BUIS on my duty rifle

I just sold my super KISS rifle, it was just a basic M4 with a 16in barrel.

This is what I have left...

I'm very happy with the setup, later on down the road I want a better acog.

Uh, Lucky is a LEO, and he teaches his folks to use the empty optic tube as a substitute BUIS. Not to invalidate having one, but you can do the job without it if you know what you're doing.

I'm still going to put a BUIS on my duty rifle if I can ever get approved by the department to have one. and a T-1.

And apologies for the necrothread resurrection

Buy a Nodak A1 and send it to the builder to build your upper...or build it youself.
