    is everyone agreeable on this?
Hell NO! A rifle barrel is substantially fouled after just one shot. I don't leave my guns dirty ever. They'll run dirty, but it's just not acceptable to me.

If I do slack on cleaning an AR it's the BCG. I'll just relube it and put it back in the gun. But I do clean the barrel.

You can't do damage to a chrome lined barrel from cleaning it unless you're really doing something wrong. Firing a bullet down it in front of 50,000 psi of extremely hot, burning propellant is a lot harder on a barrel than passing a brush and patches through it.

Someone explain why a chrome line bore does not build up copper / powder / carbon where you can go 1000 rounds. Is this ONLY for chrome lined bores?? Stainlees and non chromed AR's need different care??

Sorry, but I'm an old benchrest guy and I'm bore cleaning s.o.b......just how we did things. 25 rounds or 200. I feel like I need to clean the bore.

I was out at the local pd range where they just run the bore snake & I was picking up fired cases from their Bushmaster compared to my rra. Their primers showed to me A LOT more pressure evidence compared to mine with the same ammo?? Is this the gun, or the build of crap in the bore due to substandard scrubbing.

Man, and have I heard good things about the new foaming bore cleaners. Even the BR boys & long range / overbore guys swear by them. Little to no scrubbing.
Only way to know for sure about copper build up on a chrome lined bore is with a bore scope. I am sure there is some build up but I would think that it would be less than a none chrome lined bore.

I would love to have a Hawkeye and look at some of these 500-1000 bores.....they gotta be shrinking and causing pressure. That is a lot of layers of copper & carbon crud.....especially when hot. My guess is a good chrony would show higher velocities??

I clean the bore before it goes out again if I go over 75-100....gonna be hard for me to change.

If I shoot it, I clean it. I may not be able to eat off it, but I gets cleaned. I am currently using Barretts Copper Remover and it is some good stuff. The patch will literally turn blue and green as it removes the copper build up.

There is nothing wrong with having a clean gun in my opinion.

On my target rifles I have have seen bore fouling affect accuracy anywhere from 50-200 rounds. After cleaning it sometimes required 2 or 3 shots to get it back on zero.

On the carbine, I clean the bore about every 3 or 4 months which at this point is about 3-400 rounds. I use a foaming bore cleaner called Wipe-Out http://www.sharpshootr.com/wipeout.htm

I put some in the bore and let it soak while cleaning the BCG then just run a couple dry patches through it and call it good. I have been using Weapon Shield on the BCG but am going to test Super Lube next.

chrome has a tighter surface.. molecules are closer together or something. CM and stainless barrels are much more porous, so shit sticks to them more. more importantly, stainless, and some CM barrels, are intended to be much more accurate than CL barrels, so the effect of fouling on accuracy is more noticeable. you generally aren't scoped/benchresting a CL barrel, just listening for the clang of bullet on steel (or whatever). i do i MUCH more thorough job on my stainless barrels than my CL, but the OP was just talking about CL.

Just to add additional info, we found that the zero would change after cleaning and you would have to go through the zeroing process all over again at all ranges. If anything got cleaned periodically, it would be the bolt face to get the crud off.

Getting a definitive answer is like nailing jello to the wall on this subject Bench rest shooters cant even agree.
3-400 rounds seems fine if that is what you are comfortable with.
