I am by no means an "expert". However I am a mechcanical engineer with 10+ years of Tier 1 automotive supplier experience.

I have both 6920s and Bushmasters. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!!

I took the BCG of 2 6920's apart and compared them side by side with a Bushmaster BCGs with a CM marked bolts. The most noticable to me?

    1) The carriers of both the 6920s had a Brinell hardness test mark on them. The Bushmasters did not.

    2) The extractor groove on the Colt was noticably (visually) further back from the front of the extractor.

    3) There were clearly defined chamfers breaking the edges of the extractor on the exteriors on the Colts. They were not present on 2 of the Bushmasters and were partial on a 3rd. (Spare parts kits)

    4) The extractor had a Telesis (dot matrix) stamped C on the inside of the extractor. In my experience this is done to signify some test passing. Those cost close to $30k for just the equipment, not counting fixturing and automation. They aren't added just for fun.

Those are just a few of the things that I noticed that were different. I don't have the experience to tell you if those make a difference in performance, I will rely on others who do have experience to tell me this. I don't own a Doublestar nor have I ever handled or taken one apart.

But based on what I have observed coupled with listening to those who have more experience than me. I will probably be going with an AK. But if I were going to choose an AR, it would be Colt.

Getting back to the orginal questions. Why not just buy a S&W MP15 or a CD M4LE. They are about very close in price to a bushmaster or doublestar and they are better rifles. Or save a little more ($100 to $300) and buy either a DD XV, LMT, BCM, or Colt.

buy whichever you can afford and spend the rest on ammo ,its pointless buying the nicest rifle and then not able to afford to shoot rounds downrange

my first rifle was a bushmaster and i havent had a single problem with it yet, that knowing i was going to tacticool my rifle for civilian world because i didnt want the same stock Colt m4 rifle look that i was use to seeing..not that there is something wrong with it just wanted something that it will look like its mine

With the wealth of information available for free on this sight, I don't understand the question.
BTW, I have seen DD XVs and 6920s for $1100 on sturmghwer from time to time.
Be stupid to not heed the advice of those here, IMO.

    Out of the two:
    Bushmaster for target/varmint rifles

    Doublestar for everything else
