Veteran.
Been there, done that. Happy with my particular Bushmaster. The DPMS I owned, not happy.
Previous to these, I had a Colt. Happy. I had a late 80's Olympic Arms. I LOVED it!
Hit and miss..? Yep. Some Colt's are fail. Most not. And vice versa for some others. Don't sit there and curse my BM because you read a bad review somewhere. And I won't curse your ******** AR either.

I have zero experience with Doublestar, but my particular Bushmaster has been 100% reliable for about 1200 rounds of all kinds of ammo. YMMV. It may fail on the next bullet I fire, I just don't know.
If it's a range gun, I'd say go with either one and have a knowledgeable armor give it the once-over. If it's for home-defense (or other "serious" use); you'd probably be better off saving for a few more paychecks and getting one from a known-good manufacturer. That's the whole point of The Chart; it makes it easy to see which manufacturers are known to meet the established baseline laid out by the TDP. You already know this if you've spent more than 5 minutes on this site.

Being that I'm new to this forum, I'll bite.
I've seen some really nice rifles on here. Some of which cost more than a small 3rd world country. I bought a Bushmaster about 12-13 years ago, because that was all that was available at the time. Many people told me then, "Buy a Colt or go home" and much to my frustration, I looked and looked. After a few months of looking for a Colt, I bought a 20" Bushmaster. I've shot the proverbial hell out of it over the years. It's since been upgraded piece-meal with different components. The sad part is, I don't recall any single upgrade that I made that magically made me a better shooter. I've shot some other rifle brands, DPMS, DS, LMT, even a Colt. None of them magically made me shoot better. In fact, the DPMS and the DS did teach me a few things, like how to clear a malfunction, compared to my so called piece of junk Bushy. I'm no big fan of any brand name in particular, I just want it to work.
I'd like to have something like a Novesky or a Colt, but finding one right now is like a needle in a haystack, a really expensive needle in a really big haystack. Maybe when (if) stuff calms down a bit, I'll get me one, but for now, I'll shoot the one I have to ensure that it'll go "bang" every time I need it to. If it doesn't, I'll get it looked at to make sure it does go "bang".
For the most part, I'd say it's more important to first have a rifle than to drool over one you want, and it's more important to train with that rifle than it is to drop brand names.

Needle in a Haystack?
My brother saw Deliverance and bought a Bow. I saw Deliverance and bought an AR-15.
$1600?
Sorry, you'll have to forgive me, I recall the old days of $800-1000 Colts, and that was expensive. I think I paid something like $600 for my Bushy back then.
Like I said, when (hopefully) things calm down, availability will be better, and hopefully, just hopefully pricing might get better. Right now, having a rifle that works, I can't justify spending that much. Who knows though, once my trucks paid off in a few months, that extra cash will burn a hole in my pocket. I also noted that I'd love to have one, but like with all financial decisions, it must be weighed against a great many things.
Anything can be had at a price.

Are they the only two choices available on earth or a battle field pick up or something?Save up for a few more months and get something to the left of the chart. Daniel Defense would be the better choice and the better value.

Here.
I was considering todays prices.
I like Bushmaster, so dont get me wrong there, but since they seem to think their gun is worth 1200, Id actually buy a slightly more expensive COLT and Im not a COLT fan, just an economics decision.
It seems all the companies owned by Cerberus has inflated all their prices beyond whats reasonable IMO, even DPMS' are wanting like 900 for their 700 dollar guns
