The Sterling to my mind is still one of the smoothest shooting open bolt SMGs ever. It is reliable like the UZI but unlike the Israeli product, it is light.

If you've ever had the chance to shoot the MkV suppressed variant, you understand why some soldiers in the developing countries aren't in a hurry to go with an MP5SD.

I wish these were still in production.

Actually....it was the RSM, Sandy, who used a L2A3. Burton used an UZI.....

    That looks frickin' sweet.

I've always had a thing for Sterlings. Got to fire one at Ft Lewis courtesy of the British Army during the mid 80's.

I have a converted MK VI waiting for me when I get back home.

Are you going to use the issue sling with it or was that just for authenticity for the pics? Any recommendations regarding accessories?

Hey Stony, you're going to love your new toy.....

I can extend the issue sling out far enough to use in the "patrol" position and if I need to transition to a handgun it falls to rest just fine. It is a very narrow sling though....if the Sterling weighed any more than it does, then I'd definitely put a BFG VCAS on it. Hell, I might do that anyway.

Magazines are what I'd try to scrounge up as quickly as possible. Ohio Ordnance used to sell their NIW mags at $100.00 for 3, but with the release of the Century Arms semi auto carbines they upped their magazines to $40.00 per.

The Sterlings were designed to run with Sten magazines if need be, but those things are such a pain in the ass to load. I haven't tried any in mine yet.

I'd also like to find some proper magazine carriers. As you know, the Sterling mags are some of the finest magazines ever designed, but they're shaped differently from every other mag out there. The shelf that they feature make them wider than a curved MP-5 mag. There was some Aussie or Kiwi selling some mag pouches on Uzitalk a while a go, I'll see if I can find him and let him know.

Finally......yes, I know it's completely worthles....but I want one......an original bayonet. I know a No.5 Mk.1 Jungle Carbine bayonet will fit fine. There are some Indian bayonets on the market, but I'd rather have some good Sheffield steel....

    Stay safe man.

awesome weapon, templar. i was born in England and as a kid, the sterling and L1A1 were probably the first modern weapons that fascinated me as my dad used to take me to military shows and museums etc. i had a toy L1A1 that shot plastic pellets when i was about 5 or 6. so, i've always had a soft spot for those two particular weapons.
i also lived in singapore for a number of years and certain police were equipped with sterlings (singapore used to be under british rule). i remember trying to get as close as possible to look at them if i saw one. i wonder what the policemen thought when they saw this kid staring intently at their subguns.
of course, when star wars came out, i recognized them immediately.

Nice looking Sterling! Any more additional information you have would be really helpful. I'm just starting to learn more about them and contemplating trying to locate and purchase one. A suppressed one would be really slick as well but would you need a tax stamp for the full-auto and it being suppressed?
