Improper torque issues?

Just installed center point sling adapters for both ARs and want to know what are the potential problems that are common for improper castle nut torque? I hesitate to shoot them until I have some reliable info.

What kind of damage could happen if the nut is too tight.....or too loose, from the proper torque 40 in. lb. spec? Also, what tool do you use to torque the castle nut, I have a Proto torque wrench but not the proper tool to attach to the wrench to tighten a castle nut.

Here's my 250 Fils. In all honesty you do not absolutely need a torque wrench. I apply a small amount of anti-seize to the threads and then snug it down. Then I'll give it one more additional tug and call it a day. Then stake everything and you should have no problems.

If too little torque on the castle nut the more likely it'll come loose. This is why staking is VERY important in this area. I torque by hand, probably a lot higher than 'mil-spec'. It's a feel thing. I get it probably in the 20ft lb range and stake it, using this method I've never damaged one or had one come lose. With commercial tubes if you go too tight the receiver extension will start to turn within the lower and the end plate will start to gouge the bottom of the tube. I only use a torque wrench on the barrel nut when getting up near the 80ft lb limit.
