Question Best optic compatibale w/ NV

Looking to add NV to my bushmaster. Coyotes getting way to smart to use a light. Probally going w/ a gen 2 setup. Like some thoughts on Aimpoint or other options. Anyone know anything about the new Burris AR332? Is it NV compatable? Would like to stay under $600. Suggertions?

Are you talking about a $600(-) optic for use with NV or a $600(-) total solution?

What kind of NV do you have or intend to buy, if you are not looking for an NV aiming device?

    Do you want magnification?

If you are looking at a monocle setup with a mounted optic that can be used in day or night without the need for magnification I would be happy with an Aimpoint T-1 and either a head-mounted or behind the optic mounted monocle.

I have used a monocle behind a NV compatable ACOG, and while it does work, it requires shifting the ACOG forward which can lead to a minor to major zero shift.

$600 for the optic. NV that im looking at is Night Optics D300. Would like to mount behing a red dot so that I can remove the NV and still use the sight during the day. Have been looking at Aimpoint CompM3.

Sounds like you're pointed in the right direction on the optic, can't comment on the NVGs as the only set I have experience with is the PVS-5, PVS-7B, and PVS-14.

Mounting NV BEHIND an optic SUCKS. I would suggest looking at a dedicated NV/Scope setup.

I found an M68 on an NVG setting mounted in front of a PVS-14 to be acceptable. I liked it a whole lot better than the PVS-2.

What would be a good example of a dedicated NV scope?

I have a PVS-14 and have run it behind Aimpoint's and EOTech's. Both suck in comparison to a helmet mounted 14 or even weapon mounted 14 and a IR laser.

For dedicated stuff (NV and magnified optic), talk to this guy: http://www.tacticalnightvision.com/

    Thanks Grant.

BradA, We always try to tell our customers to save for a Gen 3 if they can, they will never be disappointed. With that said, once you know the actual range you want to engage and see clearly at will help determine your budget as well. Anything under $600.00 will not get you much that can be used seriously. A Gen 2 system in a D-740 (4x) dedicated rifle scope configuration is a good entry level system. As Grant mentioned, putting a PVS-14 behind day scopes is not the best option, but it does give you the versatility. Dedicated NV rifle scopes (Gen 3's) are really the best for clarity and resolution even over clip-on's such as the PVS-22's. But again, the first thing you need to decide is what range and environment you need your NV for. Hope this helps.

I know that going with a dedicated NV scope is the best way to go, but I want the versatility of using the same sight w/o having to rezero it every time. The average longest shot would probally be 150 yards. Maybe once in every blue moon 200 yards or a hair longer. Im lookin at probally a Gen 2+ setup. For what I am going to use it for it is hard to justify spending the extra +/- $1000 for a
    Gen 3 setup. Comments/suggestions?
