My first AR was a Bushmaster Varminter. In short, I didn't know better. I will say they are well marketed.

About a year later I was chatting with my friend who is one of the instructors for EAG Tactical, and he advised me to get something else for my next AR. He said BCM or Colt. BCM weren't taking orders anymore so I got the Colt 6920 MP-B, upon which I put an Aimpoint RDS (the PRO) (also on his recommendation.).

Super happy. Can't say I regret the Bushy, b/c I bought it for varmint hunting, and it's unlikely to let me down for that. But for everything else I have the Colt.

I bought a Bushmaster, last week, because it was the regular retail price of two months ago ($799) and a second/backup/beater carbine seemed like a good hedge against the outside possibility of an AWB.

I bought my first rifle (AR) three weeks ago. I had planned on buyi g a BCM or DD in the spring when I sold my motorcycle. However, with the unfolding event of our gov. I took a bite, sold my bike for about 1500 less and was able to get a pretty decide t rifle. It is lightly used (less than 500rds) and was a build. However, it's a DD 14.5 lite barrel, DD 12" lite rail, DD upper&BCG on top of a Charles daily lower with DD trigger. Vltor I mod stock, DD irons. The one thing I really want to switch out is the stag CH for a BCM gunfighter.
I'm really satisfied and look forward to my first carbine class in the spring!

I think the reason people buy lesser quality/price guns, are the same reason all people buy lesser quality/price, anything.

Most people weight their needs, budget and products in the market. We see the big picture. If we do not need to fire 80 grain bullets we do not need a faster twist. If we are not going into battle we may not need a rifle that will have the lowest failure rate. For most of us we will never need to save our own lives with this particular weapon, but even if we did, it would do it. My rifle have NEVER failed one time doing what it was intended to do. Fires everytime and on target.

In my home, I'll use a different weapon for defense. We are not likely to CC a rifle so our primary defense weapon is a semi automatic pistol. I don't buy the best TV, car, gas grill, sofa, carpet, lawnmower, etc. I buy the best item for my use and needs. This is true with most of us. I bought a S&W 15x, mounted a EOTech XPS- 2.0, installed a Magpul STR and MOE+ grip. I love the rifle. Others will call it shit. This what makes us all individuals, the right to chose for ourselves.

    Re: Why'd you buy it?

Well said. I did a lot of online research of AR 15s before deciding to buy my S&W M&P 15. I just need a basic range gun to have fun with and didn't want to be left out if a ban occurred. I was shopping for personal value, not to impress anyone.

If you are offended by anything in this post, blame it on auto-correct & TapaTalk.
“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” -- Thomas Jefferson

I've heard and read Noveske was one of the best and I tend to go with "buy once...cry once" saying.

I bought an LMT to make an impression on the person on the business side of my weapon if, heaven forbid, the need arises. BTW it's a great plinking gun too.

I am new to the AR community and after reading this thread I am wondering. Why do you consider DPMS a "Lower quailty" carbine. My department over half the Officers/Deputies own and darry DPMS on duty. One of my good friends/ coworker carried one in Iraq during his second tour of duty. I just bought one, but have not been to the range yet due to ammo being hard to come by. What should I be checking or looking for?
