    Aimpoint M4 mounting questions

Over the next month, I'll be trying to get my 6920 squared away. It's stock as it is now. I've got a Troy folding BUIS to replace the carry handle, and open the rail up for optics. I'd like to go with the M4s.

I did try to search these forums for as much info as possible, but some questions weren't answered.

First off, the M4s comes with a mount. Lots of you folks have changed out mounts. Aside from wanting a quick release, or changing your co-witness, is there a reason for this?

Which would the factory mount offer - absolute, or lower 1/3 - given the straight-forward setup I'm looking at?

Through the research I've done, the reviews, advice, and my preferences would probably have me going with the ADM SOCOM mount, if I need to change one out. I know Grant offers a LaRue/M4 package... anyone offer the ADM with an M4? I hate to drop the extra if I can avoid it up front.

For my M4s, I went with a BOBRO BLAC mount for the QD ability without having a huge knob hanging out and snagging web gear at every opprotunity, plus it has a solid repeatable return to zero. A bombproof mount to go with a bombproof optic

    Phenomenal mount.

My M4 in the factory mount is lower 1/3. I have no issues with the factory mount and have the knob over the ejection port so it does not snag on my gear. If I had not gotten such a good deal on mine I would prefer the M4s in a LaRue mount.

    Like all things YMMV.

    Thanks guys - helpful.

I don't care for the concept used for the LaRue mount because of the direct-camming on the rail, so I think I'll pass on it. Not dead-set against it... just not high on it.

I do want a lower 1/3 co-witness. Since the factory mount is, I'll be ok with it, at least at first, unless I can score the new mount from the gate. I want what I want, and I know it's going to cost me... but cost is an issue - a full-price optic with factory mount with a full-price aftermarket mount will bust the budget.

I'll check around to see if anyone offers the ADM SOCOM or BOBRO mounts as a package, as I do like the thought of a QD release. Anyone got any leads? (I'll be checking in directly with Grant...)

Which BOBRO mount is it that works with this optic? On the site, I see the 150 (absolute) and the 180 (lower 1/3), but I also know there is/was a different mount that isn't on the BOBRO site anymore.

If you use the factory spacer that comes with the Aimpoint M4 and M4S and the long screws you'll get lower 1/3 co-witness. No spacer and the shorter screws and you'll get the absolute co-witness.

Outstanding! That's exactly the kind of info that I was hoping for. Thank you.

I didn't realize that there was the versatility, and having the possibility for both absolute and lower 1/3 with the same mount helps a ton, given I have no way to put my hands on any of them for comparison or evaluation short of ordering all of them and returning what I don't like (which sucks for me and the vendor).

Odd (unless I'm finding an outdated site) that BOBRO doesn't have any of these listed on their own website.

I'm thinking that this will probably be the winner... if I can't find a package, I'll put this on my short list of upgrades if the factory mount isn't just exactly what I'm after.

... and it also looks like Rainier sells the optic with the BOBRO mount.

    Sweet.

A little over my budget... but...

I have an M4S and I think I am going with the Bobro mount. I have seen them with what appears to be a spacer that cantilevers the optic forward. I am going to try to run it with an Aimpoint Magnifier in a LaRue mount.

Is there a cantilever spacer available for purchase somewhere? Can anyone confirm that the Bobro mount line up correctly with the LaRue magnifier mount?

    Thanks!

With the spacer and the Bobro BLAC the magnifier 1/3 co-witness mount will work just fine.
