This thread combined with the current sale at SGC convinced me to finally order an enhanced BCG. I'm going to try it out in a 17" rifle gassed Noveske barrel that has been having some extraction issues with hotter loads like Mk 262 and some old Guatemalan M193.

wealth of information I've been looking for when building my SBR...but somewhat off topic what would be the key in making sbr run reliablity suppressed and unsuppressed? Could one still reduce felt recoil when suppressed?
Cans add a lot of back pressure. Cutting this down is very important to improving the reliability of the gun. Of course, using quality components never hurts either.
I am currently messing with adjustable gas blocks. I have got a system down for tuning them that works pretty well and to date, not a single issue.

Basically figure out the spring and buffer setup you want to run. Another variable is the popular A5 setup.
Then decide on the most common ammo you are going to use (.223 or 5.56).
Turn the GB down so that it is about halfway closed. Load one round in the gun. Fire the gun. Did the BCG lock back? If yes, it is over gassed and you need to turn down the GB some more. Continue until the BCG will NOT lock back WITHOUT the can on the gun.
This (imho) is the ideal setup as that gun will utilize the back pressure generated from the can to lock the BCG back AND still function without the can. You will also get less debris in the receiver and on the BCG and less felt recoil.
