Turn the GB down so that it is about halfway closed. Load one round in the gun. Fire the gun. Did the BCG lock back? If yes, it is over gassed and you need to turn down the GB some more. Continue until the BCG will NOT lock back WITHOUT the can on the gun.

This (imho) is the ideal setup as that gun will utilize the back pressure generated from the can to lock the BCG back AND still function without the can. You will also get less debris in the receiver and on the BCG and less felt recoil.

    I use the same approach.
I shoot the weakest ammo I have (usually Tula or Wolf), tune it until it will not lock back on an empty mag, then open the gas block about 1/4 turn. Test without the can to make sure it will cycle.
I tune it with the can off so that I know for sure it will run with the can. And that provides the softest recoil with and without the can.

I am currently using the Spike's micro adjustable. (Syrac )
And I have the SDN6 can, which is a "low back pressure" 556 can anyways.

    Grant,

Which gas block are you using? I believe Noveske makes one, I don't think it will fit with a NSR rail or does it?

^ this one? They don't make a pin verison, just clamp on and set screw type.

That is it. No pinning needed if installed correctly AND a rail is covering it (IMHO). I went with the set screwed model.

You can also have a gunsmith pin it if you are worried about it shifting.

Im with you on preferring pinned. But in my opinion, its over kill on anything that wont be carried through the gates of hell...

As stated, if its properly attached and under a hand guard its 98% as GTG as pinned!

    Great approach.

I was going to clarify "BCG will NOT lock back WITHOUT the can" by adding "but will still pick up the next round", but it seemed semi-obvious.

The (rounded) measurements are somewhat interesting.

From the case head in the mag:
.200" to the back of the mag rib
.475" to the back of the bolt catch
.675" to bolt face at full recoil

70% of the over travel is in front of the bolt catch, so there is a reasonable amount of room for proper cycling without locking back.

Next time you take her out to the range, would it be possible for you to upload a video?
I'm curious on how she sounds.

    thanks

Videos don't capture the sound of firearms well, be they suppressed or not.

Koshinn, respectfully, I simply made a "request" to Grant.
If he has no time or not able (for whatever reason) is okay.

I just wanted to "hear" Grant's rifle, and make comparisons to whatever shows up in YouTube, i.e SMGLee's video: http://youtu.be/CRMM-aXjl6k

Again, respectfully, not going into it an internet-argument(?)..just curiosity/education on my part.

    Peace
