    Aimpoint ML2-2x Magnification (Co-witness)

Im planning on running an older Aimpoint ML2-2x 2MOA optic on my 16 Midlength:

It provides a little more magnification than the standard Aimpoint ML series and this is intended to be an intermediary step until I can raise the funds for a NF or SB 1-4x optic. Ill be using Tango Down (correction TROY) BUIS flip-up signts front & Rear (NO FSB)and the Aimpoint factory mount.

Will I need a higher mount to co-witness with the TD BUIS?

Can I utilize an Aimpoint 3x Magnifiyer (giving me 6x)???

I'm unclear if the magnified optic will work with the 3x optical magnification device?
    Anyone try this set up?

I was debating this ML2-2x vs an inexpensive Millet DMS (made in china) 1-4x with mount. Im more familiar with the Aimpoint and the durabililty of these items.

There are reasons why NOBODY runs the 2x Aimpoint. It has been universally labeled as a turd. Hence, the 2x option did not carry over to the newer M3/M4 variants.

What is your intended purpose for this carbine?

I would advise getting an Aimpoint M3, and save up for a 3x magnifier. Whatever you do, dont pay for the 2x Aimpoint. Save yourself some money & grief.

ETA: You meant "Troy" flip-up sights, not TangoDown right???

What "co-witness" are you looking for? "Absolute" or "Lower 1/3"??? Here's some more info that may help you decide: http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=33621

Putting aside for a second whether or not it is a turd, I've always been curious whether the 2x models were parallax free or not, and what kind of eye relief they have.

"Turd" probably isnt the proper term to decribe it, as it is made by Aimpoint and is well made regardless.

From what I can recall, the eye relief was the main issue with the 2x Aimpoint. I tried one way back when they first came out, and the eye relief turned me off immediately. I could not obtain a quick/clear sight picture looking thru it.

Isn't co-witness essentially a non-issue when using a magnified optic? You won't be able to use your irons through the optic if it is magnified.

Just for clarification, you do realize that all of the other Comp ML series Aimpoints: M2, M3, M4, and the T1 Micro, etc. are NON-magnified optics, right?

I stand corrected ... I mean Troy sights. My bad. I was looking for an absolute co-witness with the iron sights with this specific optic. Will I need a higher scope mount? I was looking at the Aimpoint QRP but i may go with a ARMS M68 with full riser.

I am looking at the Aimpoint ML2 2x with the fixed power attachment. As mentioned its an older unit with the fixed 2x magnification. Its Aimpoint number 10583 CompML2 2X. All of my other Aimpoints are non-magnified this one has a 2x (internal).

In any case Im looking to get the most out of it as stop gap until I get an 1-4 optic.

Any info would be great. Is eye relief a question? I have full-length rails so I have alot of mounting options on the rifle above...

I wasn't aware of this. I maybe stuck with a 2x for the Time being ....

I had a Compc3 2x. It was hardly a turd, its pretty much like any other Aimpoint except with a little magnification built in. I actually liked it a lot. I thought it was a good compromise between no magnification and 3x mag with expensive and heavy magnifier and mount.

There were no eye relief issues and it was just as quick and has pretty much the same FOV as the T1 I have has. I would have kept it but I needed a NV compatible optic for pig hunting

How can a magnified optic (CompC3 2X) have the same field of view as an unmagnified optic (T-1)? I must be missing something here, but I doubt it.
