    CeraKote?

Who here has actually done the application itself? I understand there are two types? a Room temp cure and a Bake on?

I have done quite a bit of bake on KG GunKote and two part Duracoat. I have my own blast cabinet and small paint guns, so I think I can handle getting it applied.

So what is it like to use? What kind of clean up is involved?

I've used the air cure varient quite a bit. Prep is the same as most other finishes (and probably the most important step); roughen surface (if not parked or anodized), degrease, preheat (optional, but gives the coating a nice flat finish and speeds the initial drying time so the part can be lightly handled), spray, and leave to dry. The hardest part for the air cure is waiting the 5 or 6 days for the part to fully cure before reassembly. Extremely durable if properly applied and when fully cured.

Below are some parts and weapons I've CeraKoted.

Very, very nice! How is the CeraKote adhesion to plastic holding up?

    WOW Nice work.

Interesting that the air cure takes that long. How quickly can you handle the parts as in turning them over for spraying?

Is the LWRC carbine and the Aimpoint done in CeraKote Coyote brown?

As compared to Duracoat how durable have you found the Cerakote to be?

Also will setting the coated parts, in say 170 degree warm air oven speed the curing along?

As for the actual spraying how thinly does it go on?

Will Acetone clean up the gun?

    Thanks,

Parts can be handled very delicately after a couple of hours. I give it 24 hours before I even touch them.

Everything in the post above was coated in Cerakote Flat Dark Earth

Harder, but probably not as resilient to damage. It's tough stuff, but doesn't take a ding or scratch as well as one of the more elastic coatings like Norrells or DuraCoat.

Yes and that is the temp I use when I coat optics, lights, electronics, etc.

As for the actual spraying how thinly does it go on?
VERY thin. Thousandths of an inch when properly applied.

Will Acetone clean up the gun?
Yes and that is what I use.

    Thanks,

Ok I think we are on the same sheet of music.

So it's ability to resist scratches and dings is somewhat less than Duracoat but probably because it is thinner?

That color is Flat Dark Earth? It looked like the Coyote Tan on the NIC website.

Thanks for all the info, I think I will give it a try. The only thing I don't like is the long cure time but I am getting more patient in my old age.

By the way this is some of my work in Duracoat. The Color is a custom tan I mixed from FOUR parts Cav Arms Dark Earth to ONE part Tactical Coyote Brown.

    Question

i'm getting a gun cerakoted (baked on fde) as we speak.

the shop i sent it to told me they won't cerakote the muzzle brake, ejection port cover, and the delta ring (they'll just scuff off apparently).

also, the gunsmith suggested i just spray paint the optic (aimpoint comp m4) and mount (larue). (obviously he can't bake the scope).

should i just use the spray-on cerakote for these items?

I don't know why he wouldn't coat the muzzle brake, ejection port door or delta ring. The shop that does my cerakoting paints everything, and it holds up fine on the above mentioned parts.
