3-Gun at Weld County, CO (PICS)

Colorado Multi-Gun is running three local match series in the Colorado area now, the most recent addition being monthly 3-Gun at the Weld County Fish & Wildlife range near Ault, CO (East of Fort Collins).

We had 14 shooters show up for the first match, braving the frigid 5* F temps. We shot four stages:

    1. rifle/pistol El Prez @ about 20 yards, 4 targets, rifle headshots only.

    2. rifle alley, 7 shoot positions/ports along about 20 yards movement, 19 targets

    3. shotgun gallery, 32 steel shot targets, 2 slug targets, 20 yards movement

    4. rifle shuffle, 2 targets at 90 yards to be engaged from each of 5 positions/ports

As the temperatures rise from hand-numbing to comfortable, we will build some more
complicated stages and we expect to get 30-45 shooters.

    Cool pics.

Now for the dumb question: Is it usual for 3-gun competitors to run carbines without slings and/or not use them? I'm surprised in your photos by seeing slings just dangling. Is this normal?

We leave it up to the competitors how to run their gear, besides some broad equipment divisions (lim-tac-open-heman) and safety considerations.

If they want to run a sling for a weapons transition, that's fine, but safety discipline must be maintained.

Along the same lines, we like to influence shooter behavior through stage design and not proscribed actions. The description for stage 2 (rifle alley) was simply that you have to start in the box, and all shots have to be from within the alley and through the "ports."
