I would say painted, but almost looks like a blue sometimes.

It isn't the green/gray park one encounters on early G3 military rifles.

Ok, just as well this popped up. Might as well show you the long promised First Series semi auto G3 import.

For all intents and purpose these seem to be identical to G3 series military rifles except for the "MK" prefix on the serial number (which I assume was their attempt to satisfy the requirements of a unique receiver different from their select fire version, the semi auto only trigger mechanism, the trigger frame with a blocked third position and the unique import marks on the trigger frame.

Other than those unique features it is otherwise the same as the G3 with an unmodified swing down receiver, full auto bolt carrier and the same green/gray military park finish.

Here we can see the swing down receiver and frame in detail.

Here is the trigger group in an unmodified trigger box set up for semi auto only, there is no sear catch trip lever.

The bolt carrier group seems to be a standard G3 full auto bolt carrier setup. There is no channel cut as there is on the second series G3 semi import.

The barrel and furniture configuration seems to be the same as the G3 and the second series and has the early style flash hider. As with the G3 military rifle and second series semi, this one has a bayonet mount, handguard stop ring and grenade launching rings.

It also has the old non tapered cocking tube and early G3 cocking handle.

And as with the second series, it is a GSAD import.

    That's legitimately badass.

Here very early G3 held by a prop house in the Netherlands.

I think the build up area behind the triple frame was originally meant to securely seat the G1 style bipod for the early sheet metal handguards before they were ditched for the wood versions.

So what is the legal status of one of those Santa Fe guns? With the swing-down receiver, isn't it considered an MG by the ATF? Or was it grandfathered in?

Exactly the same as G series FALs. They are grandfathered Title I semi autos.

Not sure if it was the G1 bipod or a proprietary design. But if you read "Full Circle: A Treatise on Roller Locking" by Blake Stevens you will see several examples of those early G2/G3 prototypes with metal handguards and integral bipod setups. There were even a few where the bipod became the handguard like some early FAL HBs.

I'll have to check that book out.

The first Cetme model A's had combo bipod/handguards.

I doubt it was a G1 bipod, it's just styled very much like the G1/STG58.

Been thinking of building an early parked G3 or a G3 with cetme sights, etc.

    Indeed.

I wouldn't mind having one of those.
