    so will your hearing eventually become damaged from this? from say a lifetime of engaging in firefights where its not only your gun, but your team mates and enemys as well?

    Yes. Repeated exposure to loud noise will eventually damage your hearing. Thats why you can talk to a mortar guy without him saying "huh?" at least 5 times during the conversation.
