    jld ptr-91 questions

saw one of these at my local gunshop for about 1460$ and i am seriously considering getting it. does anyone have much experience with these? any problems? how is reliability and accuracy/range? I have been looking for a .308 and this seems like a better option than the ar-10 or M-14's that i have seen.

Price seems high. Last time I looked at one of these they were about $800.00.

You haven't looked at one in quite some time. They have about a dozen variants and quite a price spectrum, but they start at $1230.00

I owned a few PTRs when they first came out and they were problematic. That said a few years back they obtained the tooling to make rifles from FMP in Portugal and now make what for all intents and purpose could be considered a "contract rifle", the exception of course being that they don't make it to exact HK91 specifications due to different barrel configuration on many models, top rails on the receiver and other changes to the design.

They are a quality rifle and available in many unique configurations. Of course for the price of a basic rifle you are getting close to the cost of a true contract rifle (Hellenic Arms, FMP, etc.) and for the price of the more expensive models you are getting close to the cost of a preban German rifle.

Not that it isn't a good deal, but those are used rifles.

nice so far so good on it then?... any idea what kind of range they can shoot respectable groups out to? i would like the option to hunt with it later down the road if i wanted to, but mostly i will have it as a range/shtf rifle.

CDNN should have some for starting around $900, new rifles. RobertRTG and HKparts have just about any accessory under the sun.

Good thing about the G3 is that the krauts turned out zillions of them, the HK91 was imported for years and well regarded among US shooters. Accessory availability has usually been right up there with the AK and AR.

The HK rifle is about a 2MOA rifle and a PTR should be able to keep up.
