    Against the Law or Not????

If I were to ,say mount a fixed sound suppressor to the end of a built from scratch AR, would it be against the law?? If the barrel length were still 16+ inches. or would it have to be registered as a short barrel rifle? Just want to know my facts before I decide to build one.

amigo, every can you own and every action that has a bbl under 16" (oal) needs a nfa sticker.

    welcome....

I know the can needs to have an ATF sticker, but besides that will it be legal?? If the barrel length were 16 inches? I just don't like the extra 6+ inches added to the end of my barrel, that's all. Offsets the balance of the rifle, at least to me.

if you keep the bbl 16" and add a can then you are ok with the one sticker (for the can)

The oal is something you will have to live with or you can go SBR (under 16) and get another sticker for the action.

    Good luck with your build.

are you talking about having a can permanently attached to a barrel less than 16in to bring to over all length to 16in?

Actually I think that is what he's asking.

I want a suppressor w/o the short barrel cost of the stamp. $20,000 is really expensive for me to own. Kinda the best of both worlds.

do i get a cookie and a golf clap?

tmeure, im not a lawyer, nor a law student, nor do i play either on tv, and didnt stay at a holiday in recently so, i would double check on this... I believe the answer is yes.

say your barrel is 10in and the can is 6, i believe having the can permanently attached will make it a non SBR. before you do this though, CHECK WITH A LAWYER OR THE ATF!

My big question is why the hell would you wanna do this? why not just SBR a lower and get a SBR upper to go on it? send the paper work in the same time you send in the paper work for your can.
