It's not $20,000 bro. You might pay $20,000 for a machine gun, but the stamp for a SBR or a Suppressor, is only $200 bucks. youll need two stamps, one for the suppressor and one for the SBR, so your lookin at $400 bucks. not that much money in the long run....

the correct answer to the OP question is NO you do not need a tax stamp (for SBR) if you have the suppressor "permanently" attached to a short barrel makeing the overall length over 16". G-Man Weaponry in Georgia sells 10.5" barrels with Gemtech cans blind pinned with only a tax stamp for the suppressor required. You can also send him "your" can and he will perm-attach it to his barrels. I do not recomend this type of set up because you can never do a good job of cleaning (can't use patches on a jag) the barrel if you can't remove the suppressor.

Well, if you permanently attached a Tactical Innovations Tac-16 suppressor, it's inner parts can be removed from the front for cleaning. That would be one solution.

I rather have a removable suppressor, as there's I wouldn't want the extra length and weight on the end of my rifle. I think that's worth an extra $200.

Aslo as mentioned it's a $200 tax stamp for each the Suppressor and the SBR. Don't know where the $20,000 figure came from, not not talking full auto's here.

I asked SRT that same question a couple of years ago. Yes you can do it and yes it would be a pain to clean it. My idea was to use foaming bore cleaner and find some one with an ultrasonic cleaner big enough for the upper. If I couldn't find an ultrasonic cleaner I was just going to soak it in a parts cleaner tank.

A perm mounted can will give you a legal barrel length HOWEVER the can would still need to be registered. Basically it's the same as an integrally suppressed weapon.

I see said the blind man....going this route to save $200 seems a bit strange to my way of thinking but to each his own.

And not worth it in my opinion. A better strategy would be a Gemtech HALO and have a can that can run on most of your rifles for one tax stamp. The ability to run it on several firearms sorta offsets the cost of the SBR tax stamp.

Pay the extra 200 and just register it as a SBR. If you ever decide to sell the can, no one is going to buy one that has been fixed to a barrel. You are also limited on which ones you can get as the can, as far down as you can strip it down+ barrel length must be 16+ inches. If it can be taken apart in such a way the total barrel+ can length is under 16 inches then yes it is an sbr SBR is as simple as filling out a form 1 and engraving the receiver. The registry is not closed like the machine gun on. Also consider the cost to have it fixed to the barrel to make it compliant. That makes the 200 buck SBR stamp even better. Also what if your barrel is shotout and you want to replace it, much easier without a fixed can. If your gonna get into the NFA relm pay the money and do it right the first time. If your on that tight of a budget, NFA probibally isnt for you
