What is the problem with MY EOTech? (Turned out nothing serious)

Well ****, I had been dreading this since I started that last thread. I put my 512 on my AR today after sighting in my irons. I used a screwdriver to turn the windage knob attempting to line it up with the irons. After turning it several clicks with seemingly no adjustments I turned it a full rotation and still got nothing. I messed with it for a while to no avail; it just wouldn't adjust.
Am I doing something wrong or did I get a POS? All I did was turn the dial to adjust it and it wouldn't go left or right. At least the Troy BUIS worked great and was even set up perfectly on the windage without even having to adjust it.

Any advice on what might be wrong or a possible fix? If it turns out that it is broken, once I get it fixed I am going to sell it.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Questions:

Did you zero the irons and the EOTech separately?

    Are you using a riser?

What kind of alignment or cowitness are you going for? (Absolute, bottom 1/3)

On mine, I'm unable to detect movement of the reticle on the glass it self. When I zeroed each separately for absolute cowitness, it worked out that the dot sat dead on top of the front sight post. The dot, depending on your cheekweld will appear to be higher or lower, if your cheek weld isn't consistent in relation to your front sight.

I sighted in the irons first and then tried to move the EOTech into an absolute cowitness. It did not move at all no matter how much I turned the dial in relation to the irons.

Did you zero the EOTech before trying to adjust for cowitness? If not, all you are doing is throwing off your zero, especially if you're at home turning the adjustment screws (Use a nickle coin by the way). Ideally, you should zero both the RDS and the Irons, separately at the range.

No and I will try that tomorrow but I don't see how it can work if no matter how much I try to adjust it, it still points over a foot right of my irons at 25yds.

Zero your EO and move on.

Zero your EO and your good. don't worry about them mating, later.

Guys, if the dot isn't moving in relation to the irons, it doesn't matter if he does the Eotech first, last, or concurrent with the irons. I agree that each should be zeroed independently but I zero irons, move the dot to align, and then zero the dot all the time with my Aimpoints. Typically I'm putting the optic on a gun that's already had the irons zeroed, and I move the dot to the irons at home before I get to the range, and am typically on within 5-10 rounds by doing that.

Rancid, it's still worth going to the range, ignoring the irons, and trying to zero the dot, but it sounds to me like the Eo is fubared, whether it came that way or you somehow caused it with the screwdriver.

    Rancid,

I have seen this happen before as well as them losing or failing to hold zero as well. Your best option at this point is to contact Eotech and hope that they respond back within a reasonable time.

I met a guy at the range today that helped me out. One bragging right point to anyone who can guess the problem before 10:30.

Had the adjustments already bottomed out and kept turning the knobs the wrong way? I've seen that done before.

"my reticle needs to go to the right."

"Well, why are you turning the knobs to make it go left?"
