FN does make hammer forged barrels. I'd speculate that what you're likely seeing is stolen property......just sayin'.
got m4, FN supposedly doesent sell their stuff to the civilian market, so how do companies like Noveske and Centurion get their barrels from them?

Barrel blanks are not 'gun parts' etc which I imagine would exempt them from the agreement/contract with their US Gov't for sales.

FN (20" AR barrels) that I've seen are stamped something like FNMI 5.56mm NATO 1/7 or FN MP 5.56mm NATO 1/7.

Ok, so no Colt then. I have a Noveske that I love but I was thinking about getting a Colt as well. Maybe a DD or If I'm lucky a BCM when they're available again. Thanks for the info folks!!

N.Franklin...LWRC makes DI guns? I have not seen any of those.

ok, thats kinda what i thought. I figured that somehow, since mabey they were blanks it wouldnt count.

I wonder how people manage to get a hold of FN barrels and uppers. Like you said earlier, its obviously stolen military stuff, the question is, how are they stealing this stuff? i would think the military would notice one of their guns completely missing an upper.

I guess mabey an armorer could say that an upper or barrel "needs replacing" and then "properly dispose" of the old unit.

At least SOME of Colt's barrels are cold hammer forged. Colt's subsidiary in Canada use CHF. For a while some of those barrels were shipped here to alleviate demand. Perhaps Colt could provide more insight here. I also discussed this with them at SHOT in 2006.

The FN uppers are not stolen. A good number were surplus USGI which were sold. In fact, CDNN was selling them a few years back.

The last batch of barrels that I saw going to an outside vendor were far from "blanks". I watched the tech run some thru the laser putting the vendors name on it.

These are the ones I know of off the top of my head that offer hammer forged barrels. As stated already, Colt does not.

    Centurion
    Noveske
    Daniel Defense
    Spikes Tactical
    FN
    KAC
    BCM (this fall)
