    New Benelli M4

I just decided to add to my arsenal and buy an M4. Anyone who wants to add any recommendations/tips/advise feel free. I found one in black for $1,475, which I think is a good price in the era of Obama Bin Bidin. Actually, I saw someone with a winning bid on Gun broker for roughly 3k....poor bastard.

Congratulations on your new purchase. Start off by getting a titanium full length mag tube. carriercomp.com is the place I believe. Kip makes an excellent product. Some people like the telescoping stock, but for $700ish I had to pass.(Kip's company also fabricates them. Exact duplicates of Benelli's) Some put bigger bolt release buttons on as well. Kips products are all made in the USA so there wont be any infringement on the 922 laws if that is a big concern to you. Hope this helps.

What about the SRM mag extensions, sold by Brownell's?

It is vastly inferior. Buy Kip's Ti tube and his spring. Even if you don't buy his Ti tube and go with some other product you will need his spring. I tried all the other springs from SRM to Wolff and they all were full of fail. They limited rounds, or caused jamming as they were too weak (regardless of their length), etc. etc.

Not currently. This project was shelved indefinitely.

Technically, yes, 922r will be broken as the M4S90 still has more than 10 imported parts with the addition of the mag-tube. However, this law has never been enforced regarding an individual that I am aware of. It is a non-issue as far as I am concerned.

    Thanks, WS6.

My father and I are sick of trying to make his fickle Remington 1100 suitable for HD, and he's about ready to upgrade to something like an M4 (I can't quite convince him to just get a carbine for HD).

I get it: replacing the whole tube is better than just getting an extension that's going to have some kind of joint in the middle...

Correct, it is also almost half the weight of the factory tube/spacer setup, shaving off roughly 5-6oz. Not only that, but it is machined VERY well. Corrosion-proof, and the finish matches the weapon almost exactly (different M4's seem to be slightly different hues, just like AR's).

    Thanks!

I'm still beginning to learn about shotguns (I'm still learning about carbines, too), but at least I know where to ask, even if I don't know which questions to ask...

Keep the gun simple. I've seen some PIMPED M4s, and frankly the M4 is already a pretty amazing gun. If it's for HD use, get a light, don't shoot what you can't identify.

I'm still sort of on the fence about an optic for mine. That said some kimber night sights would be a great investment.

I'm running a titanium extension on mine, no problems whatsoever, and the tube has NEVER loosened up on me.

As for 922r, I've got a US made follower, tube, etc. I even had someone make some operating rods on his CNC lathe for me. That said, I've seen hundreds of professional 3 gunners with M4s, rocking the field stock and mag extension tube. I'm sure if the ATF wanted to they could be a dick about it, but they haven't as far as we're aware.

I ran a T1 for a while on mine, but took it off and am waiting for a proper 1913 rail to come out in a few months.

My Meprolites are awesome. highly recommended. However, finding the 5.5mm wrench to remove the FSP nut is a pain, and I suggest buying a spare FSP nut at the same time you buy the Meprolites. It's very easy to round.

I was unaware of a Ti extension, is yours a 1-off, or do you have a link to it? THe picture of your gun looks like the OEM Benelli extension to me.
