I’ve been noted as saying....Everyone has their own standards when it comes to weapons maintenance, along with their own tools and methods to achieve that standard.

As long as you are satisfied with that level of maintenance, that gentlemen, is all that counts.

I explain my personal reasons behind my standards, but I have never criticized a man for having a standard different than mine. I would expect the same respect in return.

Ever hear of Pat Rogers and EAG? Ever read his empirical data that states the exact opposite of your assertion?

Oh, by the way, I'm new here.
    It shows.

that's only partially correct. from pat's lubrication and cleaning guide, he does state that carbon buildup on the bolt tail is not a concern and that 'white glove' cleaning is not necessary, but he does not say nor imply that a dirty gun will run better than a clean one (which is one of the points kennith13 is trying to make).
i don't think anyone is going to say or disagree that all things being equal, a clean gun will run better than a dirty one. pat himself writes that having a clean gun is never bad, but will also caution against improper cleaning and has his own recommendation for a cleaning regimen which involves removing carbon from critical clearance surfaces like the cam pin slot and inside of bolt carrier.

the anecdotal/empirical data from the EAG classes are to demonstrate that the AR system CAN run when dirty but well lubricated, not as a recommendation that people don't clean their weapons. this falls under the 'just because you can, doesn't mean you should' category, IMHO.

i think this thread has run its course, and we can agree (or disagree) to let people clean their weapons to the extent that makes them feel comfortable for their particular situation. i'm going to lock it and will leave it up to other mods to unlock it they feel that more needs to be said.
