    S&W or CMMG

Looking for an upper to go with my CMMG lower. Local FFL has a completed S&W M&P15 upper for $585, or he can order me a complete CMMG for $529. The fact that I don't have to wait for the S&W is pretty tempting. You're thoughts.

they both have positives and negatives...

The S&W will have a MPI bolt, but a 1/9 barrel.

The CMMG will have a 1/7 barrel but no MPI bolt.

They are both great uppers, however.

maybe something else to think about...Does S&W have a 14.5" or 14.7" upper? CMMG does, i have the 14.7" mounted on a CMMG lower. Its nice.

For personal reasons I would go with the S&W upper from the choice of the two.

Between those two, S&W 100%. Not even close. I will not tell the sordid tale yet again, but be forewarned many have been promised uppers in the mail from cetain manufacturers and waited forever. Holy cow, and not even to enumerate the CS and QC factors. I can't believe the time I wasted trying to get CMMG right, while Noveske N4s and BCM middies came and went...for just a little more money.

Other options? Get a BCM for $475, add $200 for HG, BCG and CH, and don't look back. In the long run (that's what a gun purchase is) $100 more really isn't that much money.

    Great advice.

Over the last few weeks, I have seen MANY CMMG's rifles/ uppers (they seem not to be selling?.

I have handled and shot several. I was not impressed. Like it was suggested, consider the BCM or another quality product.

Yeah thank's for the advice, For the little bit extra I should just get the S&W considering I wouldn't have the long wait.

He also has S&W stripped lowers for $149, not a bad price, they seem easy enough to assemble.
I also wouldn't be spending money on a stock I'm only gonna change in the future anyway. I would just need a quality LPK. Hmmm.

Palmetto State Armory has CMMG uppers in stock to ship next day. Also, they have a 10% off sale. The price reduction shows up when you add the item to your cart.

As stated above, the S&W may have a better BCG, but the CMMG barrel is probably better. You can add an MPI bolt if you consider that necessary. BCM has them in stock right now and for the price difference between the CMMG and the S&W, you could have the BCM bolt added (use it for a spare ) and still have the better barrel.

99.9% happy with my m&p. the gas key was not staked very well IMO on mine, but i replaced it with a BCM anyway so no big deal. i would go s&w out of those 2 choices.
