I've had better than 20/20 vision my whole life. Now that I'm pushing my mid 40s it seems like my eyes don't focus as quick as they once did. I've shot 1,2, 4 and larger dots. For speed (which is what RDSs are for) the larger dots seem to be quicker for me to pick up. This getting older stuff.....

Hey, join the club on the eyesight. Everybody gets their shot at glasses, all you have to do is hang around long enough.
The Aimpoint T/H-1's are really not a full 4MOA dot. I shoot them all the time and you can get reasonably precise (for a RDS) if you need to (I use that pretty broadly). I've always just used the top of the dot for more precision, kinda like you use the top of your front sight post. I started out using a micro on my S&W model 41 with a Bully Barrel, so the guns super accurate and I shoot at smaller targets a lot. I do have to turn down the brightness a little so that the dot doesn't bloom. For closer shots and bigger targets it obviously doesn't matter, just point and click.

did you the top of DOT for the zero? [ with this one it would help at longer range] or cut the target in two ?

I have a Micro R-1 on a S&W Model 41 with a Bully Barrel. I cut the target in half and this works pretty well to get some precision out of the optic. It's funny when you here people say that you can't get better than 4moa accuracy out of these optics. Because the top of the dot is round you aren't going to get the precision of a patridge front, but practical accuracy is really good. Especially for hunting in the woods where you pretty much have low light and 40 something eyes.

2nd to Molon, here is my target...

It's from an ADS M4gery with a (purportedly) non free-float ER Shaw 16" barrel. Shot from a bench rest with IMI M855 ammo. 6 rounds fired. Optics is also an Aimpoint M2 with a 4 MOA dot.

I have to stick a 3MOA black sticker there because the green square is NOT visible from 100 yds. Therefore, the dot is actually larger than the target, thus adding a bit more difficulty. Also, the Green square has an edge length of 4MOA and the penciled circle is also 4 MOA in diameter and its center is 1.5" above the center of the square because the "drop" is supposed to be +1.5" at 100yds .

By my calculation the group size is about 2.3 MOA. Definitely not as good as Molon's target but I think it proves even when the target is smaller than the dot it's still physically possible to consistently hit it.

Impossible!

Very good post Molon. I've never felt at a disadvantage carrying my 4 MOA ML3. It seems some people have a real dislike for the 4 MOA dots for some reason or another. I'm in my mid 40s and carry a rifle at work. For my aging eyes the 4 MOA dot is easier to pick up!

Im pretty sure the ML3 is a 2moa not 4 isnt it? You must mean ML2? Maybe? And be glad you had 20/20 vision while you did Im young and have had horrible vision in both my eyes since I was little, worse in my right which happens to be the one I use to shoot. Turns out the only change in my eyes in the last few years is my astigmatism seems to be reversing . I know that sounds weird but, one eye was near sighted the other far, and now they are getting swapped around. So while my right eye sucks biggins, I make good use of the 4moa dot on my ML2.

Nice right up Molon, I can't seem to focus my vision on my target with my dot very well at 100m. Your group would put my previous grouping to shame

The ML3 comes in either 2MOA or 4MOA dots.
