    EOs failing

Different instructors will say different things.

Take a LAV or EAG class and ask Larry or Pat what their experiences have been. They prefer Brand A and will tell you why.

Kyle Lamb seems to prefer brand E.

Bringing up previous battery related issues on N cell Eotechs is completely irrelevant to this thread. It is about as relevant as comparing the first Aimpont Comps to the current batch of M4S's.

This thread is specifically about the new XPS line of optics from Eotech. If you have a current issue with one of the new XPS Eotech's, then please let us know. Otherwise your experiences are useless to this discussion.

If you have/had a 8 year old Eotech that has given you or a third party issues, this probably isnt the right thread to bring them up in.

    an objective reply...

I've noticed that some of the ppl here are deeply entrenched on one side of the aimpoint/eotech issue, i have an eotech xps3-0, eotech 551, eotech 511, aimpoint micro t1, and aimpoint comp ml3. all are great products, and in fact i've been fortunate to never have any serious problems with any of my hws products. both aimpont and L-3 take good care of thier customers and i would have no concerns with using either hws in a combat situation. aimpoint has way better battery life, but eotech's sights are far nicer to target with. both can take abuse and keep going, but eotech's have no lens cap so if you bail in the mud, you'll be cleaning for awhile. aimpoint's lenses give off a really pretty red flash if the sun hits it, so you'll have to buck up for a kill flash. I see in your original message you only priced the aimpoint hws and not the mounts you'll have to buck up for as well, so if you want the mounts and kill flash you should add another 35-40% to the price. A few years ago, there seemed to be an overwhelming percentage that were pro- eotech now it seems to be the majority are pro- aimpoint. just keep in mind that a few months after you drop the $450-850 on your nice new hws, there will be a waaaaaaayyyyy better product thats going to be coming out and you'll be saying "damn why didn't i wait!!!"

    oh yeah...

as i have never had any issues with my older eotech's i can't really say if the xps is better or not in regards to battery/contact issues, but they sure free up alot of space on your rail.

First, I don't own an XPS but that's only because I can't afford one right now

I dislike the term Aimpoint vs. Eotech, I'd like to think of it as Aimpoint or Eotech. If it suits your needs and works then run with it.

I started with iron sights and bought an Aimpoint M2 prior to my first Pat Rogers class back in 2006. At the time Pat was doing T&E on a variety of Eotechs along with an S&B Short Dot so that's what he was using (but not necessarily recommending).

I'd seen enough Eotechs and happy Eotech owners at various classes that I finally decided to try one out, an Eotech 552. I've probably had about 5k rds on that one in a variety of classes and its been flawless

At one point I had 3 Eotechs but sold or traded them off and kept the 552. I'm back up to two after picking up a 516 last year. I own more Aimpoints than Eotechs.

I had started moving away from Eotechs for many of the reasons already posted and with the introduction of the M4/T1 series there were plenty of good deals to be had on older Aimpoint M2's and M3's which suited by purposes just fine.

Then I went to TigerSwan's 5 day class last year and changed my mind again. I shot portions of the course with my Aimpoint and the remainder of the course with my Eotech. I shot better with the Eotech; at closer ranges the 65 moa reticle and larger window really shine, at longer ranges the 1 moa dot and hash marks on the outer ring made it easier for precision shots and holdovers as well as giving you a visual indicator if you were canting your rifle.

All the instructors had Eotechs (as Pat says, that's a clue) and they paid for theirs.

IIRC Brian Searcy talked briefly about the Eotech or Aimpoint and he stated that his old unit was using the older Aimpoints (3 moa dot) when somebody brought an archery holosight (Bushnell?) back and mounted it on a rifle. So that's when the migration away from Aimpoints toward Eotechs at his unit started.

Granted, his unit had a logistics set up that none of us can touch but for my non-professional gun needs, the auto shut off feature doesn't affect me, the battery life hasn't been an issue and I don't do anything to my carbines that the extra durability of the Aimpoint matters that much.

The only problems I've ever had with my Aimpoints were because the knob can be rolled without me realizing it. I ran a drill once where we were stacked behind a shooter and you were supposed to roll out to the left or right and then take a shot. As I rolled out the Aimpoint knob caught on her vest and turned itself off as I came up to take the shot, I've also had issues with that happening when placing the carbine in a soft case and accidentally turning the brightness all the way up which depleted the battery prematurely. Doen't mean Aimpoint knobs suck, just means I have to be conscious of it.

Now I check the reticle/brightness whenever I pick up a carbine because of those experiences.

For my home defense carbine I run an Aimpoint M2 because of battery/durability advantages and the much shorter ranges that I would shooting at.

For general shooting I prefer the Eotech because of its attributes at both close and long ranges.

    Just my 2 cents.

This is disgusting. I found more relevant info about the XPS on TOS. This is supposed to be the place where shit like this doesn't happen, so why is it?

I don't care what anyone thinks of EOTech as a company, and unless you have experience with it, I don't see how you opinion is valid. If it's no sweat off anyone's balls, how about we get back to informative posts about the XPS rather than sticking tongues out at each other trying to impose our own bias.

Now I'll go back to pondering about the XPS, T1, and TA44SG quietly, like all people with out experience should do (questions aside obviously).

The luxury of freedom was not free.

Hear hear... I joined this site because in general the posts are more objectively valuable and less about debating our "feelings". Please don't let me down... let's keep this one on the XPS.

olds442tyguy, nickdrak, and others are correct. This thread is about the EoTech XPS optics and nothing else.

I've cleaned up the thread to this point.

    Please carry on.

I have long loved my 552.A65 but it is a bit long. Any chance they will make an XPS in a AA version?

but they are half the length of your 552 and have about the same battery life if your using AA alkaline in your 552
