Except I don’t talk to Outlander because he’s never wanted to chat.

The people who don’t enjoy it are most definitely nobodies.

Bingo ... you can't beat a good Icom HT or Yaesu. I'd steer clear of the chicom made Beofeng but that's just mho.

Has anyone else used EchoLink? I will be giving it a go soon. For me, in theory, it should do more than other forms of digital comms. It will allow me to access my home repeater, and without any additional equipment on either end. My club has gained several new members by connecting EchoLink to our repeater. Some new members as far away as Michigan, and some just outside of RF range. We usually link to other repeaters during our weekly practice net, but this has allowed access to more people when we are not linked. Internet access will be the only limiting factor, but that goes for all digital comms.

I joined M4C just to ask Outlander about comms. Lol

Anyway, TRI makes two versions of their PRC 152. The A and the H. Apparently the difference is the ability to transmit on the 25-30mhz spectrum, which makes the H model almost double the price.

So two questions. First, how has the TRI 152 been? And second, is it worth it for the HF capability when the unit only transmits at 10W?

Bonus question: Have you seen the TRI PRC117 clone? What do you think?

    Thanks bro.

I’d love to get my hands on the HF-enables version, but I’ve yet to see one in the wild anywhere. Partying with a 10m handheld would be fun as hell. Lots of space to be left alone on 10m...

The 152 is a great radio; I’ve been using it as my primary HT for a while now, and I’ve had zero problems with it. It’s a breeze to program, and the batteries last forever. Most handheld radios have anemic batteries. FWIW, my primary HF radio maxes out at 5W, and I’ve had no problems with DX/long-haul comms with it.

I wouldn’t bother with the 117, until TRI makes an updated version. The ability to use it as a repeater is questionable, and full-throttle output requires it to be hooked up to a DC switching power supply.
