    Question on roll pins

Can anyone tell me if there would be any problem using a zinc plated roll pin vs. a black roll pin? The local HD only carries the zinc plated. I don't need to buy an entire selection of roll pins online. Just need a couple. I'm looking to pin a MOE stock.

Do you have an ACE Hardware nearby? I find them to have a better selection of roll pins and common hardware than Lowes or HD.

As a matter of fact, Yes. Never entered my mind. I'll check tomorrow. Thanks.
I'll assume by your suggestion the black pins would br preferred?

I do know that ACE carries the standard black oxide coated roll pins. These would be my personal preference over anything else.

I am not a metallurgist but if I recall correctly zinc is a soft metal and I can't see it lasting as long as a standard roll pin. BTW- Brownells sells a large set of rill pins.

I do not believe the base metal is zinc, just the exterior coating, for corrosion protection.

With 24+ years in aviation maintenance I’ve seen quite an assortment of common hardware. But I could be wrong. If wrong, I stand corrected.

Zinc + Aluminum = galvanic corrosion. Find the black oxide pins.

Actually, zinc and aluminum alloys are pretty close to each other on the Galvanic Chart.
