    Brass Dings from hitting deflector

Gentlemen, forgive me for referring to the other sight about this issue, but I haven't had a chance to sign up for that site yet to get a response there. I also figure you guys can help me out just as well.

I am having this specific thing happen:
    http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.htm...=452870&page=1

The issue is my brass is bouncing directly off the sharp edge of the deflector (which I realize is there for this purpose of "deflecting" the brass). The brass seems to be deflecting right at the 5 o' clock position. This puts a small ding on my brass in between the neck and base perpendicular to the cartridge axis (see pictures in the above ARFCOM archived thread link). Anyway, This was the first 60 rounds on a brand new CMMG upper. Extractor has the black insert.

I happened to have a BCM extractor spring upgrade kit that I installed and also included the O-ring after realizing my brass was dinged this way. I have yet to test it with the upgrade. My question is, will this likely solve my problem, or will I also need to further tune it by messing with the ejector spring, or adding a heavier buffer or stronger buffer spring? It's not a huge deal, but I figured anything I can do to prevent the brass from wearing all the finish off that part of my deflector would be nice.

You might be able to remedy some of that by slowing your bolt down a little. What gun are you running and what buffer weight ? Do you have a FA carrier or semi ?

This is what you need to do. It isn't the extrator that is the problem, although the black insert is a good upgrade. Probably don't "need" the oring. The barrel gas port is most likely a little oversized, causing a little too much gas in the system. Try an H or H2 buffer too slow it down.

ArmaLite used to have a Tech Notice posted on their web site, which dealt with tuning the Ejector Spring to adjust the clock angle of ejection. Unfortunately I do not see it posted anymore.

Thanks for the tips, I think I will try an H2 buffer next if for nothing else than to tame the recoil a bit. I am running an AR15 carrier, 16" barrel, carbine length gas system and I'm not sure about the buffer weight, although I assume it is a standard. The gun was kicking pretty good with PMC bronze 223.

Sure, thanks for the offer, I’ll take a copy. Can never hurt to have a copy to add to the tons of other info I’ve collected over the years.

Can you email it to me through the site email feature?
