    I am no expert but.
did the same as above and works good on my 10.5" and 16".

Heck my sig 226 with a threaded barrel use to eject them in my face and returned the barrel to sig and they sent me a new one and no problems there either now.

Trouble shooting is soooo much fun !!

Thanks guys, that will likely be my method as well. Just wanted to experiment with a few other things first, like taming the recoil a bit using a heavier buffer. If it happens to change the ejection pattern as well than that's a bonus, if not, velcro will be a simple and easy way to protect the brass and finish. I was surprised with how hard it kicked with just 223 ammo, so the bolt speed may need to be tamed a bit anyway if it's over-gassed. I also purchased an extra ejector spring and roll pin along with the bolt tool to easily remove it. I may or may not swap or trim the ejector spring depending on the results I get with the H2 buffer. I'm not trying to fix what's not broken, I'm just enjoying tuning the gun.

I performed the following modifications and things seem to be working very well in the ejection department now:

1- I added an H2 buffer and that helped soften recoil a bit. I'm not sure if it changed anything with the ejection pattern though.

2 - I tuned my ejector spring by following the below instructions:

    http://www.gswagner.com/arejector/arejector.html

Worked like a champ. All my brass land about a foot and a half away at 1:00 position now and the dinging was cut way back. There are a few brass that got very small dings, but not as badly as before and with the added bonus that they all land in a nice little pile instead of hitting the guy to my right. (I must also add a plug for the bolt vise product from Sinclair International that allows you to take out your ejector and spring easily without losing them or getting hit in the eye.)

Sounds like your ejection is too soft now. That isn't very far away. Five feet would be more normal.

It does seem like in that link above, that a lot more of the ejector spring was trimmed away than compared to the Tech Note procedure ArmaLite had published. Armalite recommended trimming away individual coils at a time until the desired ejection pattern was achieved.

That is one reason I purchased a second ejector spring in case I went too far. However, it functions reliably (I put 100 rounds through it with no failures using both .223 and 5.56 XM193 rounds) so unless I see a change in behavior to the negative, I'll run with it for now. If it starts failing to extract, I'll put the regular length spring back in.

my brass was scuffing up the deflector so I got a piece of black electrical tape .That solved the problem with the brass marks on my deflector .I really wasn't having a problem with dented brass though.I like the velcro idea better.I changed buffers too and that seemed to help also.I'm running an H buffer with M16 BCG.

I wish I had gone for the M16 BCG for the extra mass. That's a lesson learned for me. The H2 buffer I put in does help a bit. I guess I had forgotten how much more the carbine length rifles kick versus the full length systems.

What is the infatuation with the brass scuffs on the deflector? It's no big deal.

I guess I'm too picky when it comes to cosmetics.I try to keep my guns looking good as possible for as long as possible. It's just me.I try to keep them looking new forever. That's not possible with heavy use though.
I'm always pulling out the aluminum black to get rid of scratches and whatever.I pull out the blue pen on stuff that's not aluminum.
I know it's vain but that's just me.It's a battle trying to keep them looking new.I didn't have that much growing up and what I got I learned to take care of .
I've always been this way. A new scratch or ding drives me crazy.
