As I posted toward the top page 2, my experience with the 1x magnification is identical to Zhurdan's. Inside of 5yards it is noticeable, but @ 5yds and beyond it is completely unnoticeable.

That's because its 1x, but its from the back of the scope, so its like your eyes are moved forward 5 inches

Forgive the arfcom type question, but I'm going to go out on a limb and ask this here. For those that have the TR24, is it mounted on your "go to" gun? (By "go to" I primarily mean your walking out the door weapon, not home defense.) Or, do you reserve that space for an ACOG or Aimpoint? If so, is that because of the lack of ranging capability (compared to an ACOG) or perceived lack of durability (related to either an ACOG or Aimpoint?) I am quite impressed with the TR24 I picked up recently and am considering picking up another in the future, but this will mean that I will have a TR24 in a primary role, which is normally reserved for a TA11.

It on my patrol rifle that I go to work everyday with. So far I am quite pleased with it. In some artificial environments I can get the red to wash out with my patrol rifle light. In working the road so far it has been good to go.

I am working on a couple ideas to make it work better with a rifle light and if it works will let everyone know.

For LE patrol work, the lack of ranging is not a problem in the environment I work.

If you are looking to increase the brightness at night you can do something like what was done with the PS90’s White ring sight. Basically a guy made a led attachment for the sight to help with the illumination it looks like a pretty slick setup. I am not sure how adaptable it is to the fiber optic on the tr24 but it might give you some ideas

I was already thinking of the same. I found some LED's with flexible heads that can be set for momentary or constant on. I made a quick 90 degree elbow and taped it to the lower corner of the Fiber optic window. With it on it worked like a charm. I need to fine tune the mount to scope interface and I'll have a winner.

It added less than 2 ounces and I really don't care about battery life. If it dies, I am no worse than I am now (which isn't bad).

I can picture the piece needed and how I would attach it to the scope, but I have no way to mold the plastic, at least yet.

I have a second idea that I need to run by some of the engineers I know on campus, but I think I can make the setup more sensitive to the light generated by a weapon light and auto correct depending on the brightness of the light. If it works, it will be completely passive and add less than 2 ounces to the setup.

Sounds like you guys are on the same train of thought as me...
If there is a way to feed just a little bit of light into the fiber optic, it lights it up like a Christmas tree.

My thought was if there was a way to replace the fiber-covering light adjustment ring with a similar piece that had a small LED mounted in the half that obscures the fiber. Then when using indoors it could be rotated to the "no light" position, the LED turned on, and the reticle would be illuminated no matter what the exterior conditions were doing.

Obviously that's more of a factory-implemented type design so I've been too chicken to start screwing with mine. I'd love to see Trijicon incorporate something like that into one of these models, except that would force me to buy yet another one

Very interested to see what you get in the works, Jeremy.

It's a little unclear because they don't have the actual model numbers listed, but they have both a 1.25-4 and a 1-4 version listed, so I've got to think it's the right one.

I can confirm Cabelas has the TR24G in stock
