    Should I sell my ML3/LT-129 and get a T1?

I like lightweight rifles, and currently my rifle weighs ~7.5# unloaded with my ML3 in a Larue 129 mount. I never really considered the T1 when I bought my ML3 because I didn't want to spend the extra money. My dad is building an AR now for plinking and he really likes my ML3. He hasn't bought an optic yet though. I'm thinking I might give him a good deal on my optic setup, then go buy a T1. I've only used a T1 once and I liked it. Are there any significant advantages/disadvantages to the T1 vs the ML3 other than weight? From everything I've heard the T1 is as rugged as any of the other Aimpoint sights.

    Fathers deserve good deals.

The T1 does everything. That's why you won't find many Members Sales for T1s -- and when they do show up once in a blue moon -- they are gone in about 10 minutes. Of course, that's true for just about any Aimpoint selling for a reasonable price.

The ML3 is an excellent optic, and more than most will require -- so I don't think I would change it just for the sake of change...

I think PRGG nailed it. There's nothing inherently inadequate about the ML3 that would cause you to need to replace it (well, unless you needed to run NV perhaps). But helping your dad get a good deal on an optic and getting to upgrade your own optic is a worthwhile effort

Thanks guys. I know there's nothing wrong with my ML3, I really like it a lot. I'm just drawn to the T1's light weight, that's really the reason I want the T1. If I can give my dad a good deal on my ML3 and buy the T1 for not a lot out of pocket then I figure we both win.

Unless you need NV or are going to dive with it, save yourself some bucks and get the H-1 instead. It is the same except for those 2 additional features.

You also save even more bucks by buying the package deal including a mount. Check out G&R's prices: http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...&category=PKGS

    True.

The H1 goes for about $60 less than the T1. The only difference is the NV capability -- even if the immersion specs look different on paper -- the housings are identically constructed. The new H1 even comes in a matte finish just like the T1.

Since most of us will never need NV capability, $60 buys quite a few rounds...

$60.00 also buys most of the LT660, too, especially if you find one used.

yeah see here's my question too. if the T-1 is so much lighter than an M3, can it possibly be as durable/reliable? I mean, there's gotta be a reason they built the M3 that big and strong in the first place, right?...

I doubt there is a detectable durability difference between the two. The T-1 is 2 generations ahead of the M3/ML3 optics too. Just because something is smaller doesn't make it inherently weaker.

Not necessarily. Try the link below:

I've seen this done with an M3 on an LT150. No change in zero or damage to scope other than scratches.
