the mount shown in the pics that smglee posted above is an insight prototype mount. insight is still deciding on what they're going to be offering as far as mounts go. whether to have them made in-house (expensive), contract someone else, or leave it up to the end user, since the MRDS uses the same mount as the docter and fast fire. the only two mounts i'm aware of that put it at the right height on an M4 are the larue irondot mount, and the jpoint (i have never used that one) with docter adapter. i wish larue came out with a slimmed down mount/base without their shroud/protector or flip up rear sight.

the insight mount shown above is too low to co-witness properly. i can see the front sight post, but it's at the top of the window. it needs to be raised 0.3" IMHO. it's also a bit low for my natural cheek weld.

i had a docter mounted on another gun, so i swapped out that setup with the insight mount, and it's now at the right height and co-witnesses. i put the docter on the insight mount for a lower profile application. the current setup is shown below - it's a docter weaver mount on top an ARMS #17DR (this one is actually tight on my receiver) which i've had since 2004.

I agree with what has been said above about your MM site and the work you put into giving good hard data.... thank you.

I am trying to get an MRDS for under 350.00... My primary is not "expensive" and retails for around the same as the MRDS @ around 500.00 ...

I also thought about going with a burris AR 332 / FF2 combo which could be done for about half the cost of my primary and a mrds...

I am just extremely fond of Inights offerings... They seem to make them to fit both the extreme gun runner and typical hobyist alike...

They would no more misuse this gift than a doctor would misuse his healing arts, but they yearn for the opportunity to use their gift to help others. These people, the ones who have been blessed with the gift of aggression and a love for others, are our sheepdogs. These are our warrior"

I've been looking for a MRD that will work in total darkness. Since the Insight has manual brightness modes can I force the dot to stay on in a really dark room?

Other mounts for the MRDS should be very close to release if they haven't been released already.

Well, I've got an MRDS in hand but still haven't been able to find a good 1/3 co-witness mount for it that accommodates the protective shroud also offered by Insight!

I'd love to give this thing a run but without a mount, it is sitting in its box.... The MRDS is a nice little red dot BTW. I was hoping to build an ultra-light AR with pencil barrel but still retain a red-dot. This would be the killer solution if only the MRDS had an acceptable mount for it! Until then, the Aimpoint T1 in LaRue mount is still the king of lightweight red dot setups.

I had a Burris FastFire II on my Five-seveN pistol and it worked out pretty well but was a pain in the ass when it came to zeroing. It has pretty rudimentary friction adjustments and are not very precise. You also have to dismount the optic to change out the battery.

I changed the Burris FF out for the new Insight MRD and it is worth every cent to me. First of all, the windage and elevation adjustments are 1/8 moa "positive click" adjusters, not friction. The battery can be changed out from the top "without" removing the optic. You have three intensity settings as well as an "auto" setting and complete off. It is completely waterproof to a greater depth then the Burris FF II and MUCH more rugged. This is one of my favorite MRD's and I currently have a Docter, two Trijicons, and two Aimpoint Micro's.

Nice mount there. Yes, this RDS has a lot of potential, especially for an AR configuration with an absolute or lower 1/3 co-witness.

I was told to contact them in another month for a mount that would allow co witness.
