I've heard that before but the proof is in the pudding. Let's see it!

I used a YHM EoTech riser:

    http://yankeehillmachine.com/store/product183.html

It was the only thing I found lower than 1/2" of rise..... it gives about
.300. I wish it had two screws and clamps instead of one though.....

Because the sight is so compact, the window so small, getting the height just right is more critical. Have a LaRue mount backordered, I presume they made the height just right but.... ain't seen it yet.

I am still very happy with the sight although it has moved on from the above config. Even tried it with my LaRue Po'Boy and..... not bad at all!

Yes, some of the larger rail height adapters get you close but frankly they add too much weight and bulk to the weapon. If I had to add rails and mounts, the weight and bulk becomes prohibitive to the point where you should just upgrade to an EOtech or Aimpoint.

The market niche here is for a very small, extremely lightweight, non-bulky red dot sight to pushes the boundaries of usability on an M4 or M4 derivative. For that market niche, an absolute co-witness or lower 1/3 co-witness lightweight mount is needed. Kudos to the first company that figures that out.

And BTW, the Trijicon RDS gets close here but unfortunately the overly heavy co-witness mount and distortion in the RDS's glass (causing the image to move) disqualifies that option for me. The Insight MRDS is perfectly positioned to grab this market space with its lightweight polymer construction, heavy-duty shroud option, top-loading battery, etc, etc. Now all we need is a mount.....

Has anyone used the American Defense mount for the MRDS? Looking for something that will co-witness in lower 1/3rd using the protective shroud.

    Thanks!

That looks like a good solution.

I really like the insight MRDS and wanted one for my last LMT build, but couldn't find a decent solution for a mount that gave absolute co-witness. If this mount works well it could be a great T1 alternative. In contrast I dont like the Trijicon RMR at all.

Looking forward to the Militarymoron follow-up *hint hint*

that ADM mount looks too low to co-witness. my MRDS is .75" above the rail (from the bottom of the base to the top of the rail), and i'm getting a co-witness in-between 1/3 and 1/2.
the ADM mount looks like it puts the base about .25" above the top of the rail. if so, that puts the window too low to see a full sight picture of the irons through.

Yes, I've tried that Insight mount with an MRDS and it was too low for even an absolute co-witness. Frankly, there still isn't a mount that I've seen that offers an absolute or lower 1/3 co-witness with an MRDS with the protective shroud although I keep hoping one comes along.

Rumor is that Insight themselves is looking at making one but it was far down the project priority list last time I inquired........

The MRDS is definitely the best hardened RDS out there, it's just unfortunate that a mount is all that stands between it being the ultimate lightweight sight setup for a flat-top AR.

    That's too bad.

As good as the MRDS is, it's tragic that the mount situation is holding it back from wider market success.

Just tried a AD mount on the MRDS it was to low to co-witness how ever I now have it mounted on my M4
Benelli and it is rock solid. Quick target pick up and really holds zero well I have over 250 rds of slugs and 25 rounds of OObuck and it holds rock solid. I am extremely inpressed with this unit and I have a micro T-1 on a Larue tall mount to compare it with battery replacement is the easiest of all the mini RDS I have seen, and the windage and elevation screws do what they say they will.

What about using the new BUIS designed for piston guns like the Sig 556, SCAR, etc. Wonder if anyone has tried these with the AD mount.

I wonder if the shorter height of the irons would solve the issue...
