Botach was running a Cyber Monday sale, and I decide to take advantage of it and get a KZ Insight MRDS mount as well. It has a spring loaded knob that tightens a 1" long clamp that grabs onto the rail, the setup looks pretty sturdy. The interior is hollowed out, which makes the mount fairly light. Since the two mounting screws on the MRDS are situated towards one end of the sight, any mount for it is basically can only mount in one direction. The KZ mount is no exception, it mounts with the knob on the left side, which is alright for AR15 type weapons, but not so great on weapons with charging handle on the left side (such as the AUG, FS2000, and FN-SCAR).
On the kitchen scale, the KZ mount by itself weighs 2.47oz. Comparatively, my Insight factory mount + YHM makeshift mount weighs 3.81oz. So the KZ mount is lighter by ~40%, which is expected given its design. I don't have separate weight for the factory mount, but the ADM Insight mount is 2.10oz as claimed on their website. BTW, the MRDS sight itself with the shroud is 1.38oz, so with the KZ mount, the whole package is 3.84oz or 109g. Just for the sake of comparison, the Trijicon Doctor w/o mount is 0.9oz, Trijicon RMR w/o mount is 1.2oz, and Aimpoint H-1 with factory rail grabber mount is 3.70oz (105g).
This mount seem to be just a tad higher than the makeshift mount I put together, and makes for a pretty low 1/3 co-witness mount. It's not a "true co-witness" mount as claimed on the Botach website, it will be if it's 1/8" lower.
Here's some pics with the mount on my SR15. I haven't adjust the sight so the dot is not centered, that's not the mount's fault.
