    870 Sidesaddle -interfere with safety?

I'm converting my Scattergun Tech 870 to a 14" SBS and was considering a Wilson Combat side saddle to keep a few extra rounds handy. I cannot tell for certain, but looking at pictures it looks almost as if the round nearest the butt stock might interfere with manipulation of the safety. Can someone debunk this for me?

I've yet to encounter it. If you did for some reason, you could either not carry a round in that holder, invert it, or push it higher in the holder.

870 safety is on the trigger guard. The Sidesaddle does not extend below the bottom of the receiver. I run one on my Scattergun 870, no issues at all with accessing the safety.

That is my concern. I wrap my thumb around the grip to flip the safety from 'fire' to 'safe' and it looks like the last shell on a 6 shot side saddle would get in the way.

I rotate my hand clockwise and use my middle finger to engage the safety

I can't say whether this would be an issue, but why not just get the 4 round sidesaddle and not worry about it?

The 4 rd version is shortened from the front to rear. Its not an issue affecting the manipulation of the safety. The 4rd version allows for a more balanced manipulation of the shotgun while holding the receiver for reloads etc.

That's always what I'd been told and had read (probably in posts by you among others) as far as the balance issue. I wasn't sure where the other 2 rounds got added on to the 6 round ones, having never used them.

I have used the 4 round one on a 14" barrel 870 quite a bit, without issue. Ran it in a 4 day class earlier this year that included a lot of safety manipulation and there was no problem with it.

I have been running an 870 with a side saddle for 10 years as a cop now with no problems manipulating the safety. In fact your post is the first time I have seen this come up as a concern.

I had a burnsed loop on my last 870 and found it got in the way with manipulation of the safety so I've become keenly aware of the area around the trigger guard...
