    What makes a silencer silence?

If I were to want to manufacturer my own silencer what makes it tick? I've never actually seen one and checked out how it was made so is it packed with anything or is the interior construction filled with something to muffle the sound or is it ported or baffled to increase the surface area inside. I'm considering making one so where could I see examples of the basic construction?

    Very interesting...
I might just have to give this a try.
Would aluminum work or should it be made of steel?

You better be in close contact with your local ATF office. From what understand, they take silencer making very seriously, and each part has a lot of paperwork to go with it.

When other hunters ask me how they work, I have found the best way to get it across is to say it's basically a muffler. Take the muffler off your truck and see what it sounds like.....at least the light comes on.

You can legally own the key component that makes a suppressor work. In fact... you can buy it on Ebay...

I did, but I just skimmed it and missed that little tidbit.

I'll definitely go through the ATF before I do anything.
