    Multi-Tool without a knife

I need a multi-tool without a knife on it so that I can carry it while I am at work. I know Leatherman makes one(http://www.leatherman.com/multi-tool...less-fuse.aspx), but are there any others I should look at? I wish I could carry one with a knife on it because then I can get what ever I want, but knives are not allowed.

You have a few options, easiest is to buy your favorite SOG model and just remove the blade. They have hex heads and are meant to be taken apart and modified to the end users liking.

Egad. What's the nature of your job?

I know a couple folks who had similar restrictions (techno guys). They dremeled the blade off.

From my experience as a computing/networking consultant and technician, I find multi-tools an expedient low-profile tool. Not the best tool for any job, but useful for the "right now" without having to go get your tool kit. If your job requires you to carry tools, I personally wouldn't bother with a multi-tool given your circumstances. A multi-head screwdriver, pliers and electrician scissors in a small rip-offs or similar pouch will serve you just as well.

It is unfortunate that your near-sighted employers have decided to disarm you of one of the oldest and most useful tools known to man...

Its not my employers choice its the TSA. I'm a commercial airline pilot and small knives and saws can not be taken through security. Tools less than 7" can be taken through, hence the need for a knifeless multi-tool. The SOG ones look nice and the ability to put the knife back on for hiking or carry at home is appealing. Any dealers on here sell SOG multi-tools that you all know of? What kind of quality are they?

I'm sorry, I didn't realize your job involved dealing with the TSA.

I've handled and borrowed a couple SOG tools and my brother has an older model. If I didn't already have three older leatherman tools, I would definitely consider a SOG tool. They do sell individual multi-tool components so you could customize your tool as needed which I think is a definite plus. Good luck with your hunt for a compliant tool.

    Okay, got it.

Ironic that you could drive your bird into the ground if you wanted to, but you can't take a pen knife aboard.
