See to me the rail is a big part of the appeal.

There are many reasons why DD made the rail the length they did, I am not high speed enough to post the reasons, but there are many. The only two I know of are
    -forward grip
    -light mount

I would. I've been a Colt man my whole life. The DDM4 offers just as much attention to detail and more flexibility.

The proprietary aspects of the 6940 are a drawback, and Colt stopped caring about civilian markets a long time ago.

Now adding a KAC RAS to the DDXV (or another quality rail) really appeals to me. I would now say the top three on my 'next M4' list would be a 6920, BCM and now the DDXV. When the piggy bank is full I guess I'll start scratching my head

Interesting, I am considering selling my Noveske N4 Basic and replacing it with a 6940.
