I too would be interested in a small version of the GF CH latch since you guys have a medium and large version already.

Something streamlined like the PRI latch would be perfect. Having the latch poke you constantly when you let hang or even worse when you are moving and the weapon is bouncing around is never fun.

I was very interested in this mod until this past Tuesday.

We ran our usual drills night that starts at 18:30, but we had rain from 18:00 to 19:00 which in the South Florida area means the rest of the night was very humid. Combine that with 90 degree weather and everyone was soaking wet from residual rainwater and sweat.

I was having a hell of a time running my PRI handle. With no ridges my hand was simply sliding right off. I wound up switching out to another gun that has the Mod4 for other reasons and instantly noticed an improvement in my ability to grasp and run the CH.

At this point I think I'd be interested in a reverse mod; putting the BCM latch on a Gasbuster handle for use in a suppressed gun.

I'll be putting Mod4s on all my non-suppressed ARs for sure, and I'll be trying the RVT solution on the suppressed guns.

    Post I've Got the Solution

Okay, here's the solution: use a solid pin. I hate roll pins.

So Frogman, when are you going to start taking orders for your latch?

If your PRI latch does not poke you, the Mod 4 will not either.

The newer PRI handles have addressed that to some degree. I have their old rounded one and new combat latch with flattened/serrated surface, and I do feel positive difference. I actually think it shouldn't be not too difficult to modify the old one with a dremel. So if you really derive benefits from GB design, that would be one thing to consider.

On a separate note, I really like my Mod 3 BCM latch.

Any reason why this wouldn't be a good idea? I also hate roll pins, so any chance I get to ditch 'em...

Ran the BCM Gunfighter CH today (Mod 04) for TD1 of my Magpul Dynamic carbine 1 class... I LOVE this charging handle, Paul! You guys did an outstanding job on it!

And your upper kicked some major ass in class today too!

That actually was my original design. Eric (VLTOR) was 10 times better. I dropped mine, and built the VLTOR design.

    Reasons:
All the stress is still on the pin and that part of the latch and handle.
The energy still remains at the pin, and the further you pull the extended latch back the more the latch and handle actually work to pull apart from each other.
So, you still end up driving the charging handle to the rear (not directly) but outboard (right handed shooter).
My first design was a bandaide. This design was really the correct way.

    Thanks!
