The pin in the BCMGUNFIGHTER Charging Handle is the real milspec roll pin (same as used in the standard BCM Charging Handle, as well). Its shear strength is rated at almost double that most commercial (mostly chicom) roll pins sold in the US. There is a small volume of certifications from material composition, plating, dimentions, shear sample testing that comes with every batch. And they cost more than twice the price of regular roll pins. (there are a lot of these types of 'fun facts'/details on various BCM products, but we just haven't discussed it much) So the pin is actually significantly better than a HUGE percentage of the charging handles in the commercial market.

But with the BCMGUNFIGHTER Charging Handle redesign, the stress on it is really no more than Eugene Stoner expected to be on it. Thats the genius the of Vltor design. I have never seen a pin break on a standard latch. And if it did, I would be 100% sure, it wasn't a stress issue - it was a substandard crappy pin.
    Thanks for the info.

Hey, I have an idea that will surely work: let the public know these "fun facts" and gear heads like myself will not only flock to your gear, we'll "sell it for you" on Forums as well as T-shirts and ball caps. Kinda like Glock did.

Paul, I know the Gunfighter CH was just released, but do you think you could offer a latch like this down the road as an option? Maybe just extend the material on the latch forward, so it's about even with the PRI?

Thanks again for the recommendations, and a very innovative product.

    Well played! that looks awesome!

Definitely would like to see a similar one, like the ribbed PRI combat latch. Darn good idea Frog, might be time for the dremmel.

I actually just ordered the PRI combat latch, and I'm going to dremel it the same as my first latch. Let us know how yours turns out too.

I remember at an EAG class last year, Pat showed various charging handles that broke...they usually broke at the front where it grabs the gas key, which tells me the 7000 series metal is tougher than the 6000 series that some/most companies use.

My brother just got the Mod4, I was thinking about the mod3 until reading about the post having trouble moving it (with gloves on?) anyway, I'm going to get the Mod4 as it seems to meet my needs as I run a extra power spring and H3 buffer that makes everything reliable but isn't quite as easy to retract as before.

Actually, I just checked out my brother's mod4, it will be more likely the farther your knuckl points up and your hand down as you work the charging handle.

The thing that pinches you is the little stud that sticks up on the far left edge (if the rifle is shouldered) and you work the CH at the right angle....

If you look at the Mod3, there is no raised stud/portion, so there's nothing to pinch.

Maybe BCM should take the stud off and just keep the 3 lengths of extensions.

7000 is generally stronger, but without knowing alloys and heat treat it is tough to tell.

    This +1000

There is no need for that little extra height to the latch face (the stud) anyway.
