The pin in the BCMGUNFIGHTER Charging Handle is the real milspec roll pin (same as used in the standard BCM Charging Handle, as well). Its shear strength is rated at almost double that most commercial (mostly chicom) roll pins sold in the US. There is a small volume of certifications from material composition, plating, dimentions, shear sample testing that comes with every batch. And they cost more than twice the price of regular roll pins. (there are a lot of these types of 'fun facts'/details on various BCM produts, but we just haven't discussed it much) So the pin is actually significantly better than a HUGE percentage of the charging handles in the commercial market.

But with the BCMGUNFIGHTER Charging Handle redesign, the stress on it is really no more than Eugene Stoner expected to be on it. Thats the genius the of Vltor design. I have never seen a pin break on a standard latch. And if it did, I would be 100% sure, it wasn't a stress issue - it was a substandard crappy pin.
I love hearing about this sort of thing. There's so much 'unknown' about many products in this industry, it's very refreshing to get a statement like this from a manufacturer. Thanks.

Just thought I'd update this thread, and I should probably switch the title as there is now a GF Mod 5 haha.

I had the back of my PRI combat latch machined to work with the 7.62 Gunfighter CH. For me, this solves the issue of pinching my fingers in between the latch and the handle which was a common occurrence with both the Mod 3 and 4 latches.

This set up has worked flawlessly for me.
Thanks again BCM and Vltor for making such an awesome and innovative product.

Frog, there was not a problem with the mod 3 or mod 4 until someone notable said that there was a better option, therefore the Mod 5. Of course we knew a good while ago that there is an even better option out there than the mod 5. Perhaps someday there will be a Mod 6, but who are we and what do we know?

    This

    Is much better than this

Hell, we were running battery assist devices and 2 point to 1 point convertible slings long before they went commercial. I think we are in the wrong business.

That's a great illustration of the problem I was having, and how it is alleviated by using the modded PRI combat latch.

Thanks for posting and nice dremel mods too!

I have to agree with the OP. I have both a Mod 3 and Mod 4. Blood blisters all up and down the side of my hand. No question it's a good solid latch, but IMHO the Gunfighter is a terrible design for my use.

I have no idea how you guys are hurting yourselves with these. I use mine on a daily basis for real world incidents, and train with these on my other ARs, and have never had my hand pinched.

Are you reaching over the top of the latch with your finger to when you charge the weapon?

Would a gunfighter with the GasBuster style gas pathway for excess gas (for righties) be something to expect on the drawingboard?

I am with you. For fun, I shot the last Vickers class without gloves on (running the MOD 4). No issues. Now I normally shoot with gloves and of course never had any issues that way.

I have yet to get bit, but I have seen no less than three other people tear their hand up on my gun.

I think it speaks volumes that BCM is still tweaking the design though.

I've never had any pinching with my BCM charging handle, even after shooting all day. Maybe it's how I grip it or something.

Probably the best source for strong solid pins (for those that are interested) would be drill bit shanks. It would probably be easy to find the right size, and if you get a halfway decent bit it will be a fairly high grade, hardened steel. Shouldn't be too hard to cut to length with a dremel either.
