So I found this thread today....after buying an 81MGS. Didn't know what I was getting. It has a drum that locks in and I was told other drums also fit. I have not shot it, but intend to soon.

Are there any others out there with info on the 81MGS model? I seem to only see info about the 81S.

FWIW, it was imported by "C&P Monrovia, CAL" light electropenciled.

Norinco logo on the left side then:
    "MODEL 313
    7.62X39
    MADE IN CHINA"

Then the serial XY101XX (last 2 written as Xs).

Logo info serial (above safety switch)
    importer below.

I will take pics and post, but it may be a few days.

Also neat is the buttplate has a swiveling door that has a cleaning kit and the tools for the gas shutoff in it.

This thing is sweet. And I got a hell of a deal if it is this rare.

How did you disassemble the piston system? Looks like you rotated the drums to 5, but I can't get them there. Also mine has 0 to 5 on right side and 0, 6, 7 on the left.

    Thanks

What you have isn't exactly the same as Larry's, yours is a copy of the 81 LMG.

My guess would be a very late 1989 import. Probably not very many made at all. Many variants were made available right when the 89 ban went into effect so very few were made and even fewer were imported. As an example China made a 5.45 semi auto for the US market and they are damn rare for the same reason.

Here's an example of the diverse offerings from China Sports right before the ban.

C&P Monrovia, Cal. Is almost certainly Cheshire & Perez a S&W distributor and factory warranty center back in the day. They were located at 136 E. Walnut and have been defunct for a number of years. I worked there in '79-’80.
