Thread: BCM 16" Lightweight Upper

Remember that the issue is as much one of where the weight exists as how much. Removing that weight from the end of the lever (the muzzle end of the barrel) helps in the balance of the rifle and in support-arm fatigue either with weaker shooters or after a long day of shooting or patrolling.

So, while I too am curious as to the actual numbers, it really doesn't matter to me because whatever the weight savings, it's savings, and that is a good thing IMHO, especially so given where this savings occurs.

    +1

I won't have exact number until we have contoured models in our hands.
But best guess is approx 1lb 8oz.

    For comparison,

    16"
    Standard M4, 1lb 12oz
    Standard Middy, 1lb 12oz
    BFH Middy, 1lb 12oz
    SS410, 2lb 1oz
    .

Best guess ETA is early 2010 - which is coming up quickly.
(hoping for sooner, but that is the best guess at this point)

dont be a girl dude. lol.

the BCM forged middy does not seem as heavy as i expected. When i first got the bbl i was already complaining but compared to other rifles, i lucked out with a light setup.

although it seems like you would only be saving 4 oz, im eager to see how the rifle feels after all is said and done.

I'll probably end up sending one of my old uppers to adco for a forward reprofile of the barrel.

And this is why I never understood why the M4 barrels were light under the handguards & heavier out front. Doing the opposite would make more sense. Guess that's the .gov for you.

Any way you look at it, 1/4 lb (or so) savings near the front end is a very welcome improvement- especially considering the typical use of these guns.

Crap, wish they would come out sooner. I wont be able to get one if they're 1st of the year 2010.

Sounds like another great product from BCM. I am looking forward to picking one up when they become available.
