The fact that the prongs vibrate (and in turn you hear the noise) is what makes prong-style flash hiders so effective.

is your rifle's barrel free floating? i noticed that when i made my barrel free floating the ping became very audible, then with the aac flash hider it became louder, i kinda like it though.

Why are you guys so concerned about the "sound" of your guns?

Shouldnt you be concentrating more on the environment and your target? If the ping bothers you that much simply switch to another flash hider or go to a muzzle break so that way you can enjoy the concussive blast of the break instead of a ping.

In all seriousness, like was previously mentioned, ALL open ended flash hiders will ping to some degree and its up to you to just deal with it if you're looking for the very best flash suppression short of popping a suppressor on.

I have AAC, Young, and Smith prong FHs, but the one that rings the loudest and actually gets to me is the Vltor, it has a section of thin material that rings pretty damn good.

True, I run a couple of the AAC prongers and they are sweet and I really don't notice the ping when in classes and such, as you might in an indoor range. I don't, however, shoot indoors. During the night seasons of classes, I have had guys come up to me and ask what I was running because they were so impressed with the way it hid the flash.
    This is a clue.

The amount of ping you get will depend on the gun/barrel. I have a blackout that doesn't ping AT ALL.

Iraqgunz's Blackout had a very slight ping.. I mean barely noticeable.

I personally don't care if a flash hider pings.

I have not seen a Blackout FH fired at night, but from what I've read it sounds very effective.

Is it as effective as they say (like Fringe's post)?

The AAC blackout that I have mounted does not ping at all either.

Well, you folks convinced me I can get over it and that the effective ness is more important than "Pinggg."
