Wanted to ask for the proper way to install the rail panels on the E3 Mod 1.

I thought it was just a matter of using the Allen screws, but I can't figure out what to do with the square plate retainers that came with the kit.

Do I need to take off the URX3.1 rail and install the panels/handguards using them?

The side panels Allen on. The square nuts get inserted in the lower part of the rail. Look at the rail from the front as if looking down the barrel. Please make sure it's unloaded...there's a slot to insert the square nuts. These are what you screw into.

They're for attaching the panels to the bottom.

Yes, the backer nuts are for the bottom rail panel only. The side panels do not require them, due to the urx having integrally threaded holes which I wish were also designed into the bottom rail as well. Not quite sure why KAC designed it like that? I've often considered TIG'ing the nuts, or two small chunks of aluminum in place, to totally omit any loose backer nuts to keep up with, but I've not tried it to date. The rail is quite thin, and warpage from welding is always a possibility. Even the most skilled welders I know, who can TIG two razor blades together without warpage might still damage/warp the rail. I've seen it happen. Metal+heat = no guarantees...

You can take the bottom piece of the rail off for the install or you can just leave it on and slide the nuts down the slot in the rail. I use option 2. I've gotten pretty good at it.

Same here. Taking the bottom section off makes it easier to align the backer nut. But it's also a hassle to remove whatever else is mounted on the rails just to get the bottom rail off. I just slide the backer nut into the front of the rail and wiggle it into place.

Same way I've always done it also.
