I wouldn't hold it to anything without a formal release or some sort of accountability of who said it.
I called Sig once about the red dot my 556P came with (chicom t-1 clone) regarding the fact it kept dying. Long story short, the CS rep kept telling me that the "bulb" only has a life of a few hours, I gave him the item number, cited the estimated battery life, and he kept telling me that the bulb only lasts a few hours despite the battery life.

So after that experience, I would never hold something from CS at Sig or any company along the same lines (I would consider Ruger one) as the final word.

Noveske, KAC, LMT, LWRC, all of these other companies, i would, i think we can all agree that there are things beyond product quality that separate tier one from Baily, Century, and even Ruger. And in this case, it would be employee knowledge

I in no way doubt that it happened, i just doubt the validity of where it came from.
The CS could have been an idiot,
or it could simply be a liability thing where it is not like it "can't", but they don't want you to. Many manufacturers say no reloads and no steel case ammo...

If the person is dictating company policy or giving an opinion FOR the company, you have to hold them accountable.

It is just like calling me (an employee of G&R) and asking me if you can shoot 6.8 in your 556 AR. I tell you yes, and you manage to some how load this round and blow up your gun. Am I an idiot for telling you to do that? Sure am. Did I speak for the company when I said that? Sure did.

I have a formal e-mail into Ruger to see if I can get the same response out of them. We shall see.

The point of the post though is that (in general) Ruger really has no idea about AR's. Not their engineers, not their sales people and not their CS.

Thanks. It is realy sad to me that ANYONE on this forum would honestly believe that I would make something like this up.

Got a response back from Ruger. I asked if it is ok for me to put a suppressor on their SR-556. Here is their response:

It's nothing we can recommend. The flash suppressor is threaded onto the barrel with 1/2-28.
At least they know that their barrel is threaded 1/2X28.

Many manufacturers won't recommend something they don't make.

I can understand that (in some regards). If I call Noveske, LMT, BCM, etc and ask them about installing a different FS, Can, Optic, or rail onto their gun, they are not going to tell me no.

Hell, I am an 07 Manufacturer. I am not going to tell someone that they cannot modify an upper or lower that we put together.

I now have a more detailed question into Ruger asking SPECIFICALLY why I cannot use a can with their gun. I have also asked if they have tried a can with their SR-556.

My guess is that they have never even fired their AR with a can on it.

    Second Response

    Question asked:

I asked earlier if I can use a Suppressor (silencer) with your SR-556. I was advised that it is NOT recommended.

Can someone tell me why it is not recommended? What will happen if I use a Suppressor with your SR-556?

Have you tested your AR with a Suppressor on it?

    Thanks,

    Grant

    Response:

We do not recommend altering any of our firearms from the original configuration.

Ok folks. No changing ANYTHING on the Ruger AR.

I will also add to that. In my dealings with Grant over the last few years, I have found everything he has said to be accurate and truthful. I would never question what he had to say about AR's or anything for that matter when it comes to guns. If he says that's what happened, I believe him

    Question:

If I put a Suppressor (silencer) on my SR-556, does it void the warranty?

    Thanks,

    Grant

    Response:

The Magnuson- Moss Act does not require any seller or manufacturer of a consumer product to give a written warranty. It does provide that if a written warranty is given, it must be designated as “limited” or as “full” and set minimum standards for a “full” warranty. Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. has elected not to provide any written warranty, either “limited” or “full”, rather than to attempt to comply with the provisions of the Magnuson- Moss Act and the regulations issued thereunder. There are certain implied warranties under state law with respect to sales of consumer goods. As the extent and interpretation of these implied warranties varies from state to state, you should refer to your state statutes. Sturm, Ruger & Company wishes to assure its customers of its continued interest in providing service to owners of Ruger firearms.

If that isn't a crappy, dance around the question I don't know what is.

So here is what we know. Ruger does not want you to use a can on your AR and if you do and there is an issue, they will most likely not warranty it.
