I've been out of date for quite some time. Back in 09 they decided not to let me re-up seeing as how my half crippled ass was non-deployable anymore after a 2005 IED, so I just ETSed into the 2nd Armchair Div. My gear since then has consisted of my last issued molle vest that I shortened into a chest rig of sorts. It functions well, but I hate the ACU pattern, and there is so much new stuff out these days. This forum, a couple others, and some videos got me thinking, and I settled on the Haley Strategic DC3X Heavy. I can use that with both my .308 and 5.56 guns, and I got a Flat Pack plus to go with it if need be. I will be getting a new belt set up (most likely the Ronin Tactics Senshi) to go with it, but for now I'm using my old used Blackhawk belt still. I really like the new chest rig. It's simple, and rugged. Small enough not to get in the way, yet still has enough to get the job done, without allowing me to get carried away with adding too much crap. Something a lot of us tend to do.
Loadout is 4 AR mags, 2 handgun mags, some basics like a signal mirror, fire starting, and survival like crap in the little pocket, my small Steiners in the big pocket, a Leatherman Wave on one set of side loops, and a Surefire light on the other side. 1st aid is on my belt, though I need to put some on here too. At least a tourniquet. There is still some room in the small pouch, and the survival stuff isn't big priority when I have the pack... I haven't had the chance to work with this new set up yet other than to wear it around the property, as I'm recovering from shoulder surgery at the moment.
Also, as an exercise in "for shits, and giggles" I decided to try something a bit over the top. Haley made this thing with the velcro backing that allows it to mount to body armor, and to add a dangler pouch. I made some velcro straps for my CRKT Hisshou, then hung it under the system. The handle does stick out a bit, and I'll have to see if it will work or not, but I just love this blade, so I had to try. (Someone say something about not adding too much crap.) Mine has a custom handle. Didn't care for the Japanese style, and no guard. Sadly with the handle on the right side, and a 13" blade, there will be no left handed access, but hey, the damn thing is almost a short sword.

I have a question about that chest rig. How are the 5.56 Pmags holding in there? Is there any movement/wiggle/side to side play with them? I know the heavy version has wider mag pockets due to it being meant for 7.62 mags.
I am eyeing a chest rig in the near future and I actually boiled it down to one of the three Haley strategic rigs. I actually like the layout of the heavy, but I was curious about the mag pocket size especially since I only use USGI aluminum mags for my AR.
I haven't used my GI mags in quite some time. That, and I have only had this rig for a short while, so For me it's worked out ok so far. They do make inserts to keep 5.56 mags in place, but I haven't got them yet. I'm also half cripple, so I'm not moving around quite so dynamic as I did back when I was still in. They do wiggle around a bit, but it hasn't slowed me down any compared to what my hip slows me down... The Pmags do stay put better than GI mags would. I think the inserts would be real handy for reloads as it can be a hassle re-inserting the mags back in after a change sometimes. Yes, even the smaller 5.56 mags. I almost want to cut off the retaining straps as they get in the way. Not ruling that out as I won't be doing any rappelling, roping, high-speed kinda crap anymore... Haven't done a lot of training lately. Had another shoulder surgery a month and a half ago...

Thanks for the reply. I was actually under the impression that the Dc3rX and heavy came with the MP2 inserts. No big deal, just will add it to the wish list.
You may already have this in mind, but I’ve always used ESSTAC Kywi inserts in my chest rigs to secured mags and they work great.

Mock me as a LARPer all you like, but I'm a believer that when I'm shooting Service Rifle my gear should match my iron--if I'm bringing a Garand to the party I'm gonna be rocking WWII-design gear. Anybody interested in helping me build this out into a reasonably close Rifleman Set loadout, CONSTRUCTIVE suggestions are welcome--plate carrier, Camelbak and rucksack will come later.
