    General Preparedness/Training

While there are a lot of things to prepare for (Civil unrest, crashed economy etc..), the thing thats the most imminent threat for me is a hurricane Katrina part II. I live on the Gulf Coast of Florida, in a very nice area about 15 miles inland from the Coast and a ten min straight shot drive from an extremely poor area (mostly uneducated migrant workers) with a high crime rate under ideal circumstances. Katrina changed the way I prepare for hurricanes now. There is a good possibility all the low life from surrounding areas will move to my area as most of the poorer areas are low, and prone to flooding, the area where I live is higher, and has a lot of nice houses, walmarts and grocery stores to loot.

In case of a power outage (when Katrina hit LOUISIANA the power in my area was out for two weeks) I plan on using this gear to, stand watch with neighbors in the neighborhood, and keep it in the truck for tansiting to/from the places I fish/hunt or the family property. While in public (such as outside the truck fishing, going to the store etc..) I purchased a Raven Concealment Phantom with Two spare mag pouches and a carrier for my G2. If SHTF around here, I'm goin fishing and hunting for my food if need be.

I set it up as sort of an all in one rig for training and general preparedness. I can throw on the rig and have everything I need right there. Chest Rig is an SKD/Eagle and the pack is an Eagle AIII. (note: I am considering replacing the eagle with a Yote for day long stuff). Its light, and quick to put on. The pack (with water) weighs in at 20 lbs.

    Chest Rig:
    -6 Primary Mags
    -2 Secondary Mags
-CRKT Folder and Surefire G2 (in other secondary mag pouch)
-Basic first aid (left side green pouch)
-Multi tool, spare batteries for light and optic, compass, weapons lube and rag (right side green pouch)
-Maps of my area (internal map pocket)
    -Secondary Weapon

    Three Day Pack:

    Outside Pocket
    -IFAK (outside pocket)

    Middle Pocket
    -Lighter
-Fire Starting (magnesium, small (fake) firestarting sticks, steel wool)
    -Weapons Cleaning Kit
-Spare batteries for light, GPS and optic
    -Toilet Paper
    -Soap/Sanitizer
    -Basic eating utensils
    -Water purification tablets
    -SOG Seal Pup and sharpener
-Pen, Pencil, Paper, Compass, More maps (state and immediate area)
    -GPS
    -Red/Green glow sticks
    -Insect Repellant
    -Sunscrean
    -Porn

    Main Pocket
    -Paracord
-Food (Backpacker pantry stuff, peanut butter and some CLIFF bars)
-3L Hydration bladder (in hydration bladder pocket)
    -Clean socks/Underwear in ziplock bag.

I hike with the pack often on day and two day hikes, I know I can easily live out of it for two days and have enough supplies to easily go three. I'm also looking at various tomahawks to add to the outside of the pack. I'm eyeballing the SOG version as it seems pretty cost effective and tough.

Nice well thought out set up. You had me laughing with the porn. Hat did you use for the paint job on your gun? It looks great.

Thanks dude. It's very adaptable. If need be, I can wear the the pistol on the belt with spare mags as well and then I have the ability to carry seven total pistol mags (one in the gun, four on the vest, and two on my belt) with a total of eleven rifle mags (eight on the vest, two on the belt and one in the gun).

For the paint job I used Krylon Camo Paint. Base coat of Tan, then I layed a mesh dive net over the gun and sprayed the brown through it.

Thanks. Today, I decided to do another trial run of my loadout..This time, I was using a building with narrower hallways. Couple things bothered me. SO, I changed it a little..My TT mag pouches are single pouches. I wanted them that way so I had flexibility of moving them around for circumstances like this. I moved one magazine from the front and put it on my left side and moved my IFAK over. If I was down to my last mag, since I have 6, I need to get the hell out of there and regroup! I did this for a couple of reasons: 1) I realized that I didn't like my IFAK right underneath my armpit. 2) If anything happened to me, I wanted to be able to get to it easy! Under my armpit wasn't the best location of it if I was on the ground. I don't have any room for it on my belt. Another thing that I noticed I was missing was spare batteries for my flashlight. They are in there now.

Lemme apologize for the pics - late night and I'm tired. Im wearing my soft armor underneath the carrier. The one thing I did notice when you use sideplates is that you have to get used to drawing your sidearm a little more angled towards the outside. My thumb rubs against the cummerbund. I leave one side attached and un-velcro the other side to don on/off. I forgot to add, that If the dogs and I need to go hunting for someone, I have a Rat Cutlery Mil-3 that comes with me..

I am going to post a little review on the Pig Plate Carrier...BTW - SKD...You guys are ALL RIGHT IN MY BOOK!! (Have any stickers so I can put it on my race bike?!)

Just thinking of my own personal preference here, but your med kit looks huge! Does it get in the way of items on your gun belt? There are definately smaller options out there. I have the Eagle med pouch and I'm thinking of going smaller than that for my active shooter kit. Just a thought Good post!

I was using the bag for my trauma kit for a different reason that had more stuff in it. It is big and I need to find something smaller. Let em know what you wind up buying.

Cummerbund - I believe the cummberbund I use is specific for hard plates but I will check. The carrier is great!

My new "raid" vest. This is strictly for working in plain clothes without needing a duty belt. I wanted something I could throw on and have most everything I need on the vest.
PPE soft armor w/speed plate in a PPE carrier, ammo pouches, GP pouch, and radio pouch (this all comes in a bundle package). The cuff case is 511 and the taser pouch is actually for a tourniquet (Tactical Medical Solutions). I have the tourniquet in the GP pouch along with other IFAK items.
Glock 30 in a SERPA (love it or hate it, so far it works fine).
