Here's my DIY patrol setup. I got sick of all the OTV carriers for my body armor being so hot and overbuilt, so I busted out the sewing machine, bought some 1000d nylon and some strong-ass webbing and went to town.

Then I threw some Blackhawk mag and admin pouches and a BlueforceGear 10-speed AR pouch.

Sorry for the crappy pics, my wife's iphone is pissed at me.

    Wow, Goose, that looks great!

I've been thinking about sweet talking my wife's mom, who is a seamstress, into making a custom slick carrier for my concealable armor. I've thought about having her build a cumberbund to fit a soft 5x8 trauma plate on each side and wide velcro on the front. Have an Eagle chest rig clip onto it, ala Mayflower low-pro. That way I can go slick with a gun belt or full rig with just a side-arm.

    Thanks, JSX.

I'm looking at ways to add a plate carrier for just the front since my agency only issues 1 rifle plate. I like the idea of 2 5x8 trauma plates on the side, though. very cool. Maybe now I'll have to find a way to work that in...

I'd spring for a 2nd plate for better balance and protection. I've never heard of anyone wearing just 1 plate before.

It REALLY sucks when you're trying to change a flat in the parking lot of a busy convenience store at 9:30 at night with all the twenty-something "thugs" buzzing about the place and you're alone.

Though, what I recently learned is that it REALLY REALLY sucks when you've just been in an accident and you have guns in the vehicle. But that's a topic for another thread.

Both back seats fold down and gear can be pushed forward or I would just empty the trunk. If I was really worried about the thugs I might have a beat Officer stop bye while I changed the tire. This vehicle is also an agency subsidized vehicle that I use for work, so I can also call for the garage guys to come out if I wanted, or a tow truck. But I would do it myself.
